Evidence suggest that team belongs to Francis Perron. 10 point lead over Timo Meier in points in fewer than 20 playoff games. Meier was over point per game.

So hard to project how junior scoring will translate to pro, especially from the Q, but that's a big, big year for this guy. And he plays LW. I'm sure they're hoping that he'll continue on the development curve that he's on, that could solve a lot of issues with their LW depth.

People forget just how young this team is and how much talent exists within their system. They have good depth at all positions. They seem to have a good feel for the Q in their drafting and I wonder who they looking at in the 12 hole on draft day.

Did anyone watch the USA at Hungary game that just finished. I have no access. Appears like Matthews was another no show on the day.

I was thinking the same thing when I was researching him. However, I doubt he can be an impactful NHL LW next season or the season after. That's a hole we need to fill now rather than later. Who knows, maybe he pulls a Panarin and can step up rather quickly (granted Panarin was 24 this year). He looks to be an exciting prospect, but as you say, hard to predict how the point production will translate at the professional level.

He cerainly needs to bulk up. He'll never be a power forward type at his height he still needs to add a lot of weight, hopefully he lives at the gym the next little while. But as you say he's got lots of time to do that.

He's an interesting prospect. I remember watching his draft day interview, and he struck me as a guy who seemed completely disappointed (and pissed off) to have been taken in the 7th round, clearly he thought he was better than that, and to his credit, he's proven that his skill level and growth curve are superior to his draft position.

Adding to that, I thought he (and McCormick) were the two best players that Ottawa had on the ice at last year's rookie tournament.

He's dominant within his peer group, and that's really all we know about the guy right now. I wouldn't even want to predict where he'll wind up, but if he has a really strong rookie tournament, then I'm sure he'll get a look in main camp. I think he's probably going to be in the AHL, but ya never know. 20 year old rookies do make NHL teams out of camp sometimes, and Ottawa is thin on LW, especially on the scoring lines. It's clearly very premature (and probably unrealistic) to expect him to slot in with either Turris or Zibanejad on the LW, but you never know I suppose. He'll be one to watch very closely this fall.

Possibly. Does seem a bit fixed on his ex-team though. It's like hounding your ex-girlfriend. FUn for a while, then it gets ..... well.... a tad weird.

This is entirely bizarre. Every year we debate draft picks and who should go first overall. The Taylor/Tyler debate continued on for several years. Even last year with a generational talent there were still a few voices pitching Eichle. But, this year we have three huge talents at the top of the draft and we are not supposed to talk about it because of the insecurity of fragile Leaf fans who are terrified of making a mistake.

I have yet to meet a Leaf fan that thinks the Leafs are NOT picking Matthews. Shanny and co. Have made all the right moves so far. Hard to imagine them messing this up.

I think Matthews is pretty much the overwhelming favourite to be selected 1st. Tossing the Finns name in is purely to start up pointless summer conversations.

Also, this is a Sens thread. The Sens have none of the first 3 picks, so I'm not sure what the angle is to discuss this particular topic here. That's probably why there is very little discussion going on, in here.

Good post. You never know. He may get a chance to crack the roster. I suspect he'll take a similar road as Pageau did. Spend a good stint in the AHL before getting called up to the show. Doubt the Sens will rush prospects again unless they are truly special.

Colin White is still the most intriguing prospect in my mind. After that, Chabot and Paul are next one my list, but Perron is quickly moving up your prospect depth chart. Gagne had an ok playoff in junior, but seems to be like more of a project than the others. Not necessarily a bad thing, but wouldn't expect him to make any NHL news anytime soon.
