Adding stamkos would help take pressure off Mathews, Marner, Nylander , Ect

At only 26 getting stamkos should be high on the leafs lists. Stamkos is the kind of guy who loves the spotlight. It would be a good move for both teams.

why wouldn't they?

opportunity to add elite talent at a relatively young age.

on the flip side - how much would they be criticized if they didn't try? surely the media insiders, knowledgeable sports writers and even the hacks in the TOronto sports media can understand that? or is there simply not enough of a conspiracy in this view?

Not too familiar with the Leafs blue line.. what's their D pipeline look like? They aren't going to fall into the Edmonton problems of having stacked forwards with no backend are they? Buuuuut... Stammer, Mathews, Kadri is a ridiculous 3 Center model to build upon.

for sure, but i think if they do sign stammer they would use kadri and his experience in number 2 spot only for next year

Leafs already got one good player in Matthews, they certainly don't need anymore.

He's signing in Buffalo.

For as long as that lasts. Mathews has the potential to be better than Kadri in his first season.

I didn't even read the article this time. I think the league should just penalize the MapleLeafs for tampering due to the daily articles on this subject. Every day, all day, all the time. Stamkos to T.O.
The league should take their first round pick this year, make them select 30th instead. Good for Winnipeg I guess.

They are building a nice group of young D men. Reilly, Gardiner and their new d man Zaitsev. They still need to acquire another young top 4 d man IMO. But they also have a few nice d prospects in the system. And could also potentially draft one with the pens first rounder.

Morgan Reilly has the potential to be a very legit #2. Who knows what this Zaitsev kid is but he has that word, potential.

They're certainly better off than the Oilers on the backend but that stud #1 dman every team needs isn't in the system.

Similar to the Oilers, with the growing glut of talented forwards, you can expect them to look at deals for a dman or young tendy. Wouldn't be surprised if they tried to use Pitt's first and their high 2nd to move up in the draft either.

Reilly could be that stud number 1. He's 22 years old you have to remember that. Huge Season coming up for him.

They have a lot of D prospects, but they are just that, prospects.

Guys like Dermott, Carrick, Valiev, Loov, Nielson and Percy

How would the leafs forwards stack up against the current best forwards in hockey, the Oilers
