Where did the Leafs picking 1st thread go?

OK now I read it, I see we are back on track.

There's definitely something fishy about this year's draft lottery. I too had my suspicions a while ago about who would win. These were heightened when I saw some private docs, presumably intended for Betman or Daly. These docs actually had a % number next to which teams they wanted to win the lottery.

Needless to say Toronto were the favourites. They had allocated around 20% to them. Next up were the Oilers. I think due to previously picking 1st every year since the signing of the Magna Carta they made sure to give them only a 13.5% chance of winning.

I knew I should have said something at the time, but I honestly didn't believe they would go through with it. I mean we've all heard horror stories of the Crosby draft, but that's what I thought they were, stories.

I don't know what to do and I'm at a loss for ideas. I could've stopped this whole thing. I just feared for my safety is all.

Eichel:

USHL - 59 games, 72 points
USDP (U17) - 36 games, 34 points
USDP (U18) - 75 games, 105 points

Matthews:

USHL - 44 games, 68 points
USDP (U17) - 24 games, 33 points
USDP (U18) - 80 games, 133 points

Matthews > Eichel

First Edmonton will not take Matt Tkachuk. He will do nothing to help out their plague on defense. Edmonton WILL take Chychrun.

Next Vancouver will take Pierre-Luc Dubois because they need a center to replace Henrik Sedin.

That make Tkachuk drop to 6 who Calgary will take to add to their Offensive power.

Then Arizona will take Nylander who will be a top line forward which will help their rebuild.

That leaves Olli Juolevi who I think is the best Defensmen in the draft to Buffalo. Add him with Risto and you will have a pair that can start playing together next year for a long time. Olli Juolevi is just a younger version of Risto, a good skater who can play hard. Also who is going moving the puck.

1. Toronto Maple Leafs: Auston Matthews

2. Winnipeg Jets: Patrik Laine

3. Columbus Blue Jackets: Jesse Puljujarvi

4. Edmonton Oilers: Jakob Chychrun

5. Vancouver Canucks: Pierre-Luc Dubois

6. Calgary Flames: Matt Tkachuk

7. Arizona Coyotes: Alex Nylander

8. Buffalo Sabres: Olli Juolevi

Classic Garf! That is a ridiculous offer from Arizona. You go from saying that Matthews isn't that great, to having Arizona gut their team to acquire him? Why are you so threatened by other teams having decent prospects?

Sergachev from the Spitfires would also be a great addition to Buffalo's d-line at that draft spot. The next couple of years are going to start getting exciting for Sabre's fans.

There was no fixing of the results.

Eichel did not "dominate" rookie scoring.

The numbers do not suggest that Eichel is way beyond Matthews. In fact, they suggest the opposite, although I would be happy if Matthews had a rookie season as good as Eichel's.

Spin last night was that if not for the two day window, Matthews would have been 2nd overall last season, not Eichel.

Just Garth being Garth. You know that if the Sabres had won the lottery he'd be pointing you to all the scouting reports showing Eichel and Matthews to have very similar skill sets - and the reports stating that if Matthews had been born two days earlier he would have been in the conversation for the #2 pick in the McDavid draft.

But the hated Leafs won so we get this. Sour grapes.

Yes he would be. I would take Olli Juolevi first before Sergachev.

O BTW Leafs fans on 1st. My hope last night was that Buffalo stayed at 8 so we can get Olli Juolevi and Leafs get #1 for Matthews so he can make the Sabres Leafs Rivalry great again. Sorry for being Selfish there

This would further ruin the oilers. Chychrun isn't a top 4 pick...... Most scouts in mackenzies latest poll didn't even have him in the top 10.

I am not sure where you are getting your facts from.

http://www.sbncollegehock...-15-rankings-and-reaction

McKenzie's scout-sourced top 15 looks like this:

1. Auston Matthews

2. Patrik Laine

3. Jesse Puljujarvi

4. Matthew Tkachuk

5. Pierre-Luc Dubois

6. Alex Nylander

7. Olli Juolevi

8. Mikhail Sergachev

9. Jakob Chychrun

10. Clayton Keller

11. Tyson Jost

12. Jake Bean

13. Logan Brown

14. Charlie McAvoy

15. Michael McLeod

Chychrun is 9th in Bob McKenzie's top 15.

Also was number #5 in Mckenzie's Mid Season rankings.

I love the fact that the Rivalry will be alive and well. I think Eichel vs Matthews is a good thing. O BTW there is no such thing as tanking with dignity. Its just tanking for a great player period. Its the right thing to do

Agreed that Matthews is "certainly not Eichel". Eichel isn't a bad player, but we've already got a few of his caliber, and he's certainly not the kinda guy you're hoping for after finishing dead last.

Though, even if Matthews only tops out as an Eichel-like player, at least we didn't have to watch two historically bad rosters, built entirely for the purpose of getting someone else, to get him.

That would suck.

No way are they drafting the Russian kid.

Russian kids are like RBs in the NFL. Top picks are rarely used on them anymore, too much of a crapshoot. It seems the NA scouts place them last also when scouting in the past ten years because of this. After the Zadorov/Grigerkenko babysitting years, I just don't see it happening....

Another thing I don't see happening, although I would love, is the trade for Corey Perry. I'd love it. We all WILLED ROR here last season, but this mountain maybe to lofty.

Albeit a fun, fun, fun rumor. Corey Perry - that'd be something. The Steve Stamkos signing is much easier to digest that's this one. Not that Perh is better, but, that would be a doozy of a trade to get Perry.
