Great read, as usual

Is there an explanation as to why the schedule is what it is? Is this a format on "trial" for NHL? 2 B2B in a series??? ftW?

The Gulls will own the Reign. Too bad our parent clubs aren't playing each other. But if you get a chance to go to these games at either venue, you should go. Tickets are cheap. And the entertainment is good.

Let's go Gulls!

Scheduling conflicts. Apparently this schedule is the only one they could work out with both buildings.

I don't know. I was at the game last night, and it looked like the Reign was playing against a pee-wee team. It was very one-sided. I've not seen the Gulls play, but if they bring a game like San Jose did, it's not going to go well for them.

The Gulls are much much better than the Barracuda, and the only team in the AHL the Reign played that had a winning record against them, so the Gulls are more than a match for the Reign. It's going to be nasty. The Reign have scaled back some of their tough guys who have moved on, while the Gulls have a lot of old school nasty. Getting Theodore back for them is a huge plus for the Gulls.

The Reign really need to improve their Power Play. Having Schultz out there on the second unit is mind boggling. And Backman, while he can be effective on the point, is inconsistent keeping the puck in, and a bit of a defensive liability if there is a short handed rush.

Correct! Lindsay Czarnacki did a post on that today on Ontario Reign Insider

Should be a great series between the Gulls and Reign, looking forward to it.

Remember, the Barracuda's parent club is still in the NHL playoffs. The Ducks and Kings are out. I have no idea who the Kings were able to ship down. But I was at the Gulls game last night. They had Shea Theodore, Chris Wagner, and Korbinian Holzer from the Ducks. There was also a newly signed Swedish stud that didn't/couldn't play. We'll see if he can play next round. The only big problem is that Anton Khudobin was knocked in the head early in the game and did not return. That puts the goaltending in question.

I wouldn't expect the Gulls many tough guys to play too much. None did last night. The Gulls actually seem intent on playing hockey. I assume the Reign have similar intentions. There will be a few job openings with the Ducks next season. Bob Murray was at the games the past two nights. All BS Ducks v Kings fan stuff aside, this should be a great series. Get out to a game if you can. Personally, I'd make a weekend in San Diego out of it.

Agreed. This will be an awesome series.

Look for a preview around Wednesday. The dichotomy of the Gulls lineup fascinates me. Small pocket of extremely high skill guys couples with another pocket of grizzled, nasty, Nhl fringe bruisers. Makes for a diverse game.
