Another great season for Bergeron, but I'm guessing that Kopitar is going to gain a slight edge this year due to the Kings making the playoffs, and also that hard to ignore +34. Who knows though... it's not like Bergy is a bad choice either
Just wanted to carry this over from the last thread because I think it'll be pretty shocking for some guys to see the numbers:
Just did a bit of simple digging... here are the stats... total shot attempts and shots on net. The narrative that Krug doesn't hit the net is (frank)ing stupid.
TOP 5 SHOTS ON DEFENSE:
Burns: TSA:625 - S:353 =56%
Karlsson: TSA:507 - S:248 =49%
Byfuglien: TSA:482 - S:247 =51%
Krug: TSA:469 - S:244 =52%
OEL: TSA:458 - S:228 =50% - mixturebill |

He should win it again, guy is still one of the most underrated players in hockey.
I mean even in the allstar game he was the only one backchecking and breaking up plays, he just can't help himself |

Class act all the way. I hope he wins it again. Very deserving!! |

Krug hasn't even played 300 games yet! He's gonna be great. |

With all due respect to Bergeron who is a class player and human being, but if Kopitar gets jobbed this year, there shouldn't be a Selke award.. |

If Bergy were to win it, I wouldn't call it a job, perse, but I do agree that Kopitar should probably take it home this year. |

I agree, if he wins it this year, I think it's safe to say Bergy is getting the Lidstrom treatment from voters. Not that I'm opposed to that |

Eh........
Remember the survey that came out with the players and one of the questions were "who is the biggest pain in the ass to play against?"
Chara, Marchand, Perry and Kesler were at 11% of the players.
Bergy was next at 9%.
To me that means that the first three are Richards, and toolbags, hence the dislike.
Kesler and Bergy are pains because they are not dirty, but such hard player to play against all over the ice. It makes playing against them difficult because they are so good, not because they are being Richards.
The fact that Kopitar is in the running for the lady along with Loui would have me question how much LESS they may be in opposing players heads than a Bergy or Kesler.
And I know most do not care for the advanced stats on this board, but Bergy and even Marchand were head a shoulders WAY better than most of the other Bs players AND other players in the NHL.
What's nuts is how unbelievably AMAZING LA was in possession as a team! |

Kessler is one of the dirtiest players in the league Imo. He's on the same level as James Neal. Theres no question about his efforts in all 3 zones, but he regularly goes over the line with smaller players, or softer players if you will. I personally can't stand him. Kinda the way everyone outside of Boston feels about Marchand. It's the sneaky stuff that drives me mad about his game. I'll give him this much, he is extremely effective at his job. |

Speaking of dirty, how about Orpik's hit tonight? He's a predator in every sense of the word. |

My point was that a Lady guy should probably not be in the Selke group..........it's like oposite world.
Kesler seems to have a little more Burrows in him...........more than Bergy has even a drop of Marchand.
But, think about it for a second................
All the guys named are hated because they are thought of as DIRTY.
Bergy is usually thought of as one of the cleanest guys in the NHL.
So how does he get into the top 5 of "pain in the asses?"
Because he is THAT GOOD.
While Loui and Anze play nice........... |

Getting the 14th pick in the draft is probably as close to hockey hell as possible..............
We have managed to do it twice in two years!
Ugh............
When do you look at the club and say, "poop, we are not very good. Let's sink for a season and grab a top 5-10 pick and springboard from there."
OR
Just keep on thinking you are a better team than you are and keep on picking 13-20th every season for a decade?
Sweeney! Think logically and throw the HOMERISM OUT THE WINDOW!
A year ago from now our assets value was:
1- Bergy
2- Hamilton
3- Pasta
4- Rask
5- Krejci
6- Marchand
A season later.
1-Bergy is still a hockey God.
2-You traded Hamilton for 50 cents on the dollar.
3-Pasta is about the same.
4-Rask has dropped in value.
5-Krejci is 50/50 with his hip surgery.
6-Marchand is a potential superstar.
Grab some top pair guys with 3-5 or just dump and dive to the bottom for a season or two............FA D-men can't be as bad next season as this one. |

No doubt! I can't see us drafting a defenseman at 14, but I would grab Gauthier in a heartbeat. We need to shore up the right side as the B's are pretty deep at center and LW. You can't fix the D through the draft at this point, so the only ways would be a trade or the hardly used offer sheet. At the end of the day it's a business and should be treated as such. So i say throw a couple of sheets at Jones and Gudbranson and lose the future picks I guess. Providing they sign of course.
Or, like you kinda suggested, say (frank) it and stink for a couple of years and rebuild like everyone else and fix the problems through the draft. |

Remember that the Stemp and Liles trades cost us picks over the next couple seasons.
Best bet would be to simply try a straight trade for Dumba.........
Let them know we will sign him for $6.5 plus and give them a couple first (this season and next) for it.
That's the tricky part............no smart GM, will trade a top 10 pick for less than a "kimg's ransom"..............unless you are Don Sweeney. Ugh....." |
