One more year, then a buy out (hopefully). I doubt he will ever hit 15 goals again, let alone 20 or 30

Being with Tavares doesn't automatically make one a consistent 30-goal scorer by itself. It didn't happen for the carousel of people who played with JT this season. Moulson always had a good nose for the net, but, yeah, he needs not just elite talent with him, but an elite playmaker to get him the puck at exactly the right moment.

He can't skate well enough to create his own space, he's not all that good along the boards, and he's not even a real net-front presence the way people used to say. He's really just a guy who becomes basically invisible while the other two players on his line do all the work. Then when everyone forgets about him he can sneak into a good area, and if someone gets him the puck at the right time, he's calm enough by the net to pick a spot and score.

So, he's only good for that one thing, and only if he's in the right conditions to do it. He could probably find a home somewhere and produce again, but it's probably more trouble than it's worth trying to figure out exactly what those right conditions are.

Moulson's a great guy. He's gotta step up and buy into the offseason conditioning, extra practice during the season and make an impression that he wants to be here during the pre-season to give him the light of day on this team going forward that is in a capacity that is productive rather than being delegated to 4th line fodder.

However, being the optimistic Sabres fan that I am, the 4th line will hopefully be very productive going into next season with the additions of talented players GM TM makes in the offseason.

I would love to see the 4th line be Foligno, Larsson and Gionta and that's not a bad thing. If this line ends up being 4th line talent, who where able to handle some teams first lines this past season, that puts the Sabres in a very good spot.

Back to Moulson, if the scenario I mentioned plays out. That basically leaves Moulson without a line. The best I see him being is 3rd line the worst, is the press box.

I believe GM TM when he said he expects him to be here next season, barring some magical trade he makes in the offseason.

I heard that they agreed on the rules for the expansion draft. I can't find those rules anywhere. Have they been released?

I'm hoping he has a better season. This past one was bad bad bad. Paying him all that money made it even worse. Next season we should see a boost in all the players that lacked .

moulson plays really decent d for a slow forward

keep the expectations low and he is fine for 3rd line and second team pp

it's a bad contract, but not a bad person in the locker room and does show consistent effort

snake bit in scoring this past year

moulson , as bad as his production was, his point per minute on the ice, was not much lower than e. kane and much higher than the lion eater

I think he's lazy and just playing for a paycheck.... no need to push it too hard I'm 31 and getting paid $5 million to skate around a few minutes a night

Where? All I see are the same rules that we already knew. Gary Lawless said the the NHL and NHLPA have agreed on what to do with players with NMC but he hasn't elaborated yet. Don't think it's public info at this moment

He also does get paid much more than the lion eater, though. I wouldn't be upset with Moulson if he was getting Girgs' salary.

I'm not even really that upset with him getting 5 since it's not stopping us from doing anything at the moment. Murray isn't going to back off Stamkos because we have to pay Moulson. He will play next year, go through the expansion draft (his 5M is a nice amount to expose) and either get claimed or won't. He can then be sent to the AHL for a ~1M savings or bought out for a longer hit. That or he gets traded.

Point being, as bad as he is at worst we only have him for 3 more years and have many options with what to do for him.
