one game. that they didn't out play their opponent in for most of it. Need to be much better in game 2.

Throughout overtime the Caps were icing the puck, missing on golden chances and had more shots than the Pens. This occurred to me as yet another sequence of illustrious efforts by one team that would end up being crushed by a lapse of judgment leading to an avoidable goal. It was a surprise they were able to get that winner.

The Caps were lucky tonight and missed on getting their goal discounted by mere inches. They'll need to keep going and ride the momentum. Complacency can bite them in the arse, and they have more games to play.

good god; I thought they had (frank)ing thrown it away in the third there. They barely get the puck out and then it's back in their end for an extended period of time.

However, they dominated OT - so I don't know what to think. Glad they won, but really, it came down to Oshie being a baus, and Holts standing tall (and I also liked how dominant Richards became in the face-offs by the end).

Everyone else was pretty marginal. Can OV JUST SNAP SHOT THE PUCK FOR ONCE? (frank)...

I thought they played much better in OT than the entire 3rd; the commentators cursed them, though, bringing up 'how good they are' in the final period.

I don't know how anyone watching the game could say that the Caps controlled play for most of it. There some pretty definitive momentum swings (Caps were better in the first, the Pens were far better in the 2nd and 3rd, and OT was pretty even) but overall I thought it was a pretty evenly played game decided on a kind of fluky goal that went in by a matter of an inch or so. Going to be a long series.

PS: the term is Hat Trick. 2 words. Or Hat-trick with a "-".

Pens could have very easily stolen that game last night. Caps appeared to be out of sorts for stretches of the game, especially when it was 4 on 4. We can't keep expecting Holtby to come up with the save in 4 on 4s and when the Pens are shorthanded. Wilson has to clean up his game, the knee on knee was inexcusable. Burakovsky looked great and so did Oshie of course.

Weird, I thought the Pens were the better team throughout the game. There were momentum shifts for sure, but over all, i thought they were the better team.

I do not have a dog in this fight, but anyone who thinks the Caps controlled this whole game does not understand hockey.

You mean like the 2nd and 3rd periods, when the Pens outshot the Caps by a margin of 30-12? Go back to the "bracket of shame" and just count your blessings the Islanders purposefully ducked out of playing either the Caps or Pens in the first 2 rounds. Either of these teams would have waxed the Isles.

If you go back two weeks I said repeatedly I want to play the pens in round one.

And, if you read the post you quoted, I was talking about the overtime. Wow you're a sensitive one.

Edit- just saw the typo, I was only referring to overtime. I see now why you reacted that way.

So does Wilson get a review for his blatant knee on knee with Sheary?

Don't mind hard play but it was late and dirty.

late and dirty? It was a knee on knee. He is very lucky he didn't get whistled for at least 2.

the win against florida felt like a weight had been lifted, at this point, anything further is purely gravy. They could have been swept in round 2 and I wouldn't have been bothered.

I'd love to see them go further, we'll see what happens

it'd be pretty incredible to see them get another shot against the caps in the conf. finals. I think the caps are a better team this year than last year as well, so no smack talk from me, I'd just really like to watch it.

Why? Because everyone says Tampa is supposed to be good? (frank) the lightning.

I think the isles match up better against the lightning than we did against the panthers, so I'm not saying I don't think the isles can beat them, but for 23 years I've felt like watching the isles try to win a playoff series was like watching charlie brown trying to kick a football. The relief from seeing them win a series has made me a lot more relaxed watching their games.

I was starting to wonder if I'd see another one in my lifetime.

An Isles/Caps and Sharks/Blues Final Four would be great.

it would be - no illusions here, caps are a hell of a bad matchup for the Isles, I think we'd do well against the Pens. I just think I'd like to see a rematch of last year if it came down to a choice.
