Matt Henderson: Hall Plus For McDonagh? - Matt_Henderson
Maybe he's suggesting that they'll trade McDonagh to the Islanders for Hall and your first round pick, what-with us acquiring that for Hamonic and all. |

I don't know if the Oilers and Kings are good trade partners. We need defense. On a similar note, I could see you guys going after someone like Trevor Lewis. |

If Chiarelli moved our first and one of those three for McDonaugh than the last page of the paper work should be his resignation. |

We`ll stand pat. Cannot trade 1st rounders with potential besides, we can draft good D with one of our 1st overall picks over the next 8 years under PCs new rebuild |

Outside of Edmonton, the rest of the hockey world tends to view RNH more realistically. He's NOT a great two-way center; he's small, fragile and even at a pro-rated full season - of which he hasn't yet proven - hasn't cracked 60 points.
If Edmonton wants a high level defender, it's time to pull something from the shiny pile of #1 draft picks which has so far garnered them bottom three in the league for how many years now. |

RNH was a #1 pick and he has a lot of value in the league. pretty sure he isn't going anywhere though. you trade wingers not centermen. |

He does have a lot of value. That's why it's best to move him for D. Leon and MCD are the top two centers, RNH is too good to be a 3rd line center. Centers get traded all the time - Kesler, O'Reilly, Stall... |

Draisaitl player more on W than C and the plan appears to have him at W to start again |

I'd be interested in a package for Hall that include hamonic, but you can keep eberle and the rest. |

Lot's of value, yes. However if you take RNH out Edmonton's top 2 centres have less than 150 games played between them. If the Oilers do trade RNH, Chiarelli needs to find another veteran centre who can play in the top 6. Nothing wrong with having natural centres playing the wing. Becomes a much bigger problem when you try and move wingers to centre. |

I think most knowledgeable ranger fans know larry brooks is an idiot.
I think Islanders fans thinking they could get Hall for Hamonic are nearly as crazy. Not sure why people think just because the oilers have been terrible recently, they will just give up Hall. I think it will end up being Eberle plus for Hamonic. Hamonic is a great player on a great deal, but Hall is younger and better at the position he plays, even if some consider it to be a far less important position. |

Agreed.
I think RNH is a top candidate to the the from Edmonton. But he is best dealt after a better year.
Edmonton needs to keep the most recent high picks like Nurse, Draisatl and McDavid. |

I never said straight up. I said a package including hamonic. And I'm not talking Hamonic and a middling pick. I've said previously something like hamonic, 1st rounder, nelson/strome might be interesting to the Oilers. |

Just for argument sake;
Nuge's two way abilities have been abit overstated by some, but his smarts and takeaway ability have shown that he can be a very adept two way guy. Maybe not as defensively dominant as j staal or couturier etc, but still very solid, with a higher offensive ceiling.
He's 6'1-190lbs. That's as big as many many great centres in the nhl.
As far as fragile; he'd missed like 10 games total in almost 4 seasons before a slapshot broke his knuckle. That's not fragile, that could happen to anyone
He would've broken 60 in his rookie year prorated.
While I think matts love for nuge is abit exaggerated, he's a helluva player and only turned 23 a week or two ago.
Pure value, there's absolutely no doubt mcdonagh is worth him and more imo.
But he wasn't wrong that more left handed defenders doesn't really solve a problem.
And nuge + the first ? No thanks
Hall and the first ? Not even worth mentioning really

This year’s first-rounder — which will be overall pick Nos. 1-5 as determined by this coming Saturday’s lottery drawing — would necessarily have to be part of the conversation. So would Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall.
If this is his exact quote, I read it as the conversation is going to have to include one of those 4 things in order for a deal to be done. Not that it would have to be the 1st pick and one of those players.
But he might be crazy and think the latter..... |

In your own words, Mcd is "worth his weight in gold" and is a steal at under 5 Mil per year over the next three years. Yet, you frame each individual piece mentioned as being more valuable than that. Now you know what's wrong with Edmonton and mgmt there. They over value their players and as a result, have been suffering from analysis paralysis. Now, I wouldn't make the deal as structured by Brooks, he's a buffoon, but you have to look at your player roster more objectively. Mcd has been an all star and a team captain, yet you frame your left defense position as if all or any them will be that too. Very unlikely.
If I were PC and McD was available, I would look long and hard to see how to make a deal. |

If it were me, I wouldn't be interested in substituting value for more assets
If halls going it's gotta be for a true stud defender.
Really hope we can acquire hamonic. But if it's not for nuge or ebs or maybe even the first; no deal |
