this is rich. were the officials good? Hell no. was it slanted against florida? Hell no.

from jokinen being dragged from the faceoff dot to the blue line holding onto hamonic's stick, the tone was set in the opening minutes. That's a clear penalty, is it not? From JT being hooked on the hands while strome was tripped almost exactly at the same time while already on the PP should have led to a 2 man advantage, should it not?

the officials were brutal, I don't deny that. The goals called back against florida were legit - sorry. You had a penalty shot in ot for only the 3rd time in NHL history. You had 3 overtime games where the panthers had numerous chances but couldn't get it done.

was a penalty called missed at the end of game 6? Probably - however it had gone both ways the entire series. At best, you hold on and go back for game 7. But it didn't cost them the series, that was when yet again, the panthers couldn't score in a game that went to double OT.

sour grapes it is indeed.

I didn't get to watch too much of this series but officiating seems to be at an all time low given the other series I have watched. I don't think there is any Illuminati-esque NHL agenda however I do think that if these guys are considered the best of the best then we have some pretty low standards.

Seriously? All you can do is whine about officiating?

Isles played better hockey. Florida couldn't beat greiss. This whining is ridiculous and you come across as a sad little man. Congratulate the winners and look towards next year

You beat me to it almost word for word. An OT penalty shot? 2 goals called back that WERE the right calls. Yes the officiating was bad, I agree. Bad for BOTH!!
Shame on you Dan

have no issue with this, officiating was horrible but it went both ways, and from what I've seen of the other series, it's happening to them as well.

Dan this was a great article and I couldn't agree more. As a Ranger fan for 43 years I have watched the officiating just get worse and worse! My guess is we need 5 officials on the ice or a new fair and honest leader for the NHL! This seems to be not only happening in hockey but in football as well. It is a serious shame they just can't get it right or they are being ordered to get it wrong! Its simply makes the game suck!!!!

Even after all the bad calls that didn't go your way, the game was still in OT.

Right?

You had a chance to win, even with all the bad calls. One goal, one time to step up, in an elimination game.

They didn't, Tavares did, end of story.

This example is really just a microcosm of your whole argument throughout this series.

In 5 games, Detroit had 25 power plays against us (they went 1 for 24). Sometimes you gotta overcome questionable and non calls. You didn't, but this experience will do wonders for your team.

I Watched the last half of this now deciding game. The missed call on the trip(s) were only in hindsight glaring. That happens a lot during games. What was painfully obvious to me was that Florida was exhausted! That tying goal was more a result of tired Panthers players then it was the trip in the opposing zone. They stayed out to score on an empty net and got burned.

Condolences? Wtf?

And you have fans all around the league making a case for a conspiracy against their team when they lose. Which is why, there is none in hockey. You can't have an agenda for 30 teams.

I didnt see any of the games in this series, but i did tune in during the last few minutes of the third last night. Trochek (?) was obviously tripped, it was obvious to everyone refs included. They didnt call it, probably thought like most people that the game was over with less than a minute left and the Cats pressing. They were wrong and the cost was a goal that tied a game that would have likely been lost if the call was made.

This is a perfect example of why a penalty is a penalty no matter how much time is on the clock.

Tavares won that game though, how does your defense let THAT guy have that much room around the net twice?

The one on Trochek was just laughable that it wasn't called - and then the Boychuk tackle on Jags - this really did have some mind numbing dumb zebras -

Its important to the league that the Islanders move to Brooklyn is successful? That's a joke. The Panthers led 171 min to 45 and still lost (your words). That must mean they blew numerous leads (which they did), not the refs. 5 overtime periods, the Panthers scored 0, ZERO goals including a penalty shot!! ZERO! The refs must've reversed all those goals scored in overtime by the Panthers. AND..........Taveras was WIDE open with 53 seconds to go for the tie...WIDE OPEN!! JOHN F'N TAVERAS....Mustve been the refs who held some of the Panthers from checking him.....Geez

Honestly just follow the concept on the ice. Hand shakes and move on.

No matter how good or bad the officiating, the officials didn't hold Florida to 1 goal in a must win game.

That's just how it goes. The Islanders played better and won. They took advantage of their opportunities.

Florida has a good future ahead. A lot of talent and skill. Just have to keep growing and have a more balanced attack that can produce when it counts.

Yeah, and did you catch the missed call where the Panthers only scored 4 goals in the final 3 games of the series?

All I hear from this article is whining! Get over it. This has gone on for decades. The Isles did "win" that series. Your selective memory doesn't recall Hamonic dragging your player while he held onto his stick in period 1. Nope, nothing called. You got a rare penalty shot in game 5. Didn't convert. Maybe your guys didn't finish and the Isles did.
You have a very good team. Next year will be better.

Sounds as if no one really cares how pi$$ poor the officiating is as long as their team wins. Don't fix it if it ain't broke - and it ain't broke if my team wins.
Does the game suffer? Nah. It's just female doging and whining by poor losers. Yeah. Right.

Actually, if you go look at both of my responses you’ll see I did comment on it, and it does suck – but calls were blown both ways in this series and around the league. Saying your team would have gone 6 and 0 if not for the officials is a hilariously bad argument given they couldn’t score more than a goal in the last two games.
