So how are you Isles fans liking our Joel Quennville reject (Nick Leddy) thus far?
Worth the coin?
Q wouldn't let Nick take the body in Chicago and what I've seen thus far, while he may not be your most physical D, he certainly has done a good job of using the body along with that great skating.

We're melting down over in JJ's blog because one of the beat writers announced earlier today that Q was inserting David Rundblad into tonight's lineup, with the Hawks trailing the series 2-1 in what most of us consider to be a must-win.

If you're not familiar, Rundblad is the NHL version of Bambi, except AFAIK, Bambi was much more physical around the crease and didn't fold like a cheap tent any time an opposing player got near. He was sent off to Sweden after being put on waivers, came back and stunk up our AHL team (according to our Rockford connection, Rundblad's give a (frank) was still in Sweden, although I would swear that he never had it to begin with).

Me? I'm sad Nick's not in the Indianhead and really hope he and the Isles do well.
Good luck guys in your game tomorrow.

He has been very solid for us. Would be facked without him. One of the best skaters I've ever seen and makes it look so easy. Small price you guys had to play for a couple of cups though. Good luck to you guys as well

I'll be honest - when John was in our thread talking about Leddy on the day we traded for him I wasn't overly impressed. I thought he was a bottom pairing guy with good wheels and a bit of offensive ability who wouldn't be a big add for us defensively. I was completely wrong, John was right and he's been one of our top two defensemen since we traded for him.

We definitely would not be anywhere near as solid on the back end without him and snow made a tremendously good trade picking him up.

also will be honest that I'm kind of pulling for the Blues. They've had such a solid team for so long now without any playoff success that I'd like to see them go on a run, however it's always entertaining watching the hawks play so it's more of a win/win scenario as a neutral observer.

Totally agree with this. If there were no Cap issues in in Chicago I think he would still be a Hawk.

Maybe.
If it was up to Stan (Bowman), yes almost for sure since Nick was his prize when he traded away Cam Barker.

However, if you've kept an eye on us at all, you'll know that Q has a TON of say over what happens. It's very likely Stan would of (if he could have) signed him to a nice contract and Q would have continued to play him as a 6th D. Always seemed to be looking over his shoulder here, really happy to hear you guys feel he's helped your team.

I've been around hockey for more than 50 years (still play in an over 40 league) and have never seen a guy skate like him. We could sure use that ability to slice through for those great zone entries. I'm going to be very interested to see what Snow does with Hamonic -- will he be able to get value back for him?

Doubt he will be launched (or Cappy FWIW), they already have a built-in excuse with Halak being out injured and having to have Greiss start. I do know there is much angst in Isles-land tho!

Why are they not bringing up pokka we gave you in deal. He should be ready by now.

I'll give you my view -- when we last saw him with the big club, his skating was badly in need of work. I haven't seen him since and some of our Rockford connections have said he's improved.

OTOH, who the hell knows -- I mean, if you've followed us, Stan Bowman "gave" away Stephen Johns (he of the 6'4", 230 lb build) without him ever getting a sniff in Chicago. Turns out, he's pretty damn good. Skating shutdown pair with Johnny Oduya.

I put a lot of this at Q's feet. I know, you guys would love our 3 CUPS for a front office, GM and coach like Q. However, there is much frustration in Hawk-land with some of the puzzlers like the above that have gone on. Seems you are either in Q's good graces or in his doghouse. End up in the latter, you almost never come out. Some of us (me in particular) think Pokka never sees Chicago ice except wearing another uniform. I could be wrong but history tells me I'm on the right track.

Johns impressed me when the Isles played Dallas and he's looked great in the playoffs as well. That trade hurts for sure. I understand that sharp had to be moved due to the cap situation but that one is going to sting for a long time.

Pokka sounded like the real deal. What is with former Islander D prospects like Pokka and Reinhart needing so much work on skating?

Q always seemed like a fine coach to me. Something has obviously worked.

Speaking of Islander prospects:

@WrightsWay
CSKA Moscow loses Game 7 of KHL final 3-1. Ilya Sorokin allows two goals in the loss. Didn't allow more than 2 in a game all series. #Isles

Sorokin only allowed more than 2 goals once in 20 playoff games. Finishes postseason with .945 SV%. #Isles

Amazing year for Sorokin

He actually is a fine coach -- with seemingly little patience for mistakes, especially young players. Of course this IMO. I cannot argue with 3 CUPS but I'm greedy, with our roster (even given all the cap sheds) we should have lots more. The golden age for us, like the Isles in the 80's.

Would like to see you return to that level of dominance out East, don't like the Caps nor the Rangers.

Totally different now building a team and especially keeping your core together with the Cap. I don't think you'll see 3 / 4 cups in a row again with the Cap.
I think Bowman has done a masterful job and Quinville is awesome. We will trade you Crappy and throw in Bailey and Strait for him.

What does a brother got to do for a seven oclock start? Whats the deal with these late starts? Ranger games are all sevens minus the afternoon game.

Capuano is gone if isles lose this series. Think staple of all people even said before the start of this season if the coaching staff doesn't even get past round 1, they're gone since new ownership is taking over majority control next season. And snow would be on the hot seat as well heading into next season unless the new owners would decide to just completely clean house.

Yeah i'll never understand the 8pm start for two east coast teams. You also gotta realize that these games can easily go to multiple overtimes....
