Todd Cordell: The Calgary Flames Should Re-Sign Jakub Nakladal
- ToddCordellCGY

Hey Todd! Have you seen Andersen & Magnapiane are moving on to 3rd round & both are posting pretty impressive numbers. Treliving commented that he thought Anderesen could have played NHL this last year but they wanted him to further develop, so wouldn't be surprised to see him next year. Agree Nakladal should absolutely get resigned, hearing he wants to stay too.

I would think that Andersen should play at least a year in the A. No rush, especially as Smid, England, and Wideman all come off the books after next year.

Edit: I like England and think he would probably be a good 7th D. But not sure if there will be room to resign him.

I agree, Nakladal isn't an asset we should let walk. I'd really like to see what he can do playing a full season. He'd almost certainly come in cheaper than Engs, Smid and of course, Wideman. We also need to resign Wotherspoon and find a spot on the top 7 for him.

So, hopefully, trade Wideman and Smid hits the LTIR for the entire next year. Resign Naks and TSpoon and Engs becomes #7.

Anyone heard how Hunter Smith is doing? Wondering if he could step in for Bollig after next year.

From what I understand he sat a lot of games. It's very doubtful he plays on the big club next year. Another couple in the AHL at minimum I would think.

Agreed on Nak-Dadddy.

I would like Engelland to be on the second pairing full time next year. Keep the 3rd pairing with Nakladal and Jokipaka.

Seriously bro! Engelland is not a regular 2nd pairing Dman. He was good this year filling in in that role, but he is not a 2nd pair guy. I'd rather see Naks with Gio on a 2nd pair or let a young guy like Jokki or Wotherspoon grow in that role alongside Hamilton.

I actually liked Engellend's game in the 5-6 space. He's got another year (I think) so use him in that spot and when you need a little grit...

Agreed. He's fine in a #5-6 spot and then if he needs to move up in the case of injury, fine.

I hope they re-sign him
what were Nakladal's numbers compared to Schlemko the previous year?
Always thought Schlemko looked pretty good out there by the eye test and we let him walk...

Anyone think we trade our list round pick for Drouin? I could see it happening.

That would be Drunk, Cuban Rum....where I live there is no Crown.

I understand the Drouin hate but kid is playing pretty well right now. Kinda fits what Flames could use.

I don't hate him, I just wouldn't trade our 1st for him.

If you go by draftsite's NHL redraft, Drouin would go 15th if they redid that draft. Trading the 5thish pick in this years draft of the 15th (and possibly dropping) in the 2013 draft seems like massive overpayment. The question is, is his lack of development his fault or Tampa's ? Not sure i'd roll the dice on that question for a 5th overall pick.

Have you watched him play recently? That site is about as reliable as BigErn's opinion. I would strongly look at trading our 1st for Drouin DEPENDING on whether or not some teams leap us in draft position. He's just what the Flames need and is closer to the age of our core guys, not 3 or 4 years behind.
