Coyotes want Dubas for nothing? Give them Shanny and Bab's for some added value, and I'd call that a deal!

From the last boards...think it was Wedgie....

"Today @ 2:48 PM ET
After watching Laine highlights I wouldnt be disappointed at all if the Leafs ended up with the 2nd pick. He'd be the perfect addition to a Nylander Marner 1st line and that one timer on the power play is something the Leafs desperately need. And if they get Stamkos you have a big shot for the 1st and 2nd unit."

I watched the highlights and he's definitely good but I didn't see any body or board work or much in front of the net JVR type work---the work that JVR has been forced to do.

So then I watched Matthews, that kid seems like a possession hound. He is always down low, working the boards, going to the front of the net and then all the open ice stuff that Laine does.

Matthews seems like a really good player that needs to add very little to his game. JMO.

(hadn't really looked at either until now.)

If we get #1 Matthews.

#2, 3, or 4 I would have to go:.....Tchachuk...and this is because he has a ton of skill but also plays with edge and more body than Laine and Punjabi from what I've seen so far AND he has the Marner connection. (I do watch the Knights' games.)

Tchachuk, Stamkos, Marner
JVR, Nylander, Lucic

That would be my top 6 and start them all next season.

Get #1/2D and #1G....playoffs for BabRichard.

Better....way better.

20% Matthews.
80% Stamkos. (would almost go 100%)

JVR, Stamkos, Lucic
Komarov-Nylander, Kadri

Leafs will trade up with the Pitts pick and get another top 5 pick, that's the Shanaplan. Use any of the other plugs for the 4th line.

Could it be because of his health. It was rumored that he would step down.

I think they trade for a young D-man, either on of the kids form the Ducks or Trouba. Depending on who they go after, I could see a pick/prospect with one of JVR, Kadri or Bozak going back.

Not me.

My annual April to June statement: I don't actually have any opinions on who the Leafs should draft. I don't watch any junior hockey, so I'm content to just sit back, watch who the Leafs select, read all about him, and then assume he will be a bust.

Although I will say this: the idea of drafting a pure winger intrigues me. I've ranted a few times here about how Canadians hate wingers - we simply don't produce good ones, relative to our standing in the hockey world.

So it would be weird to grab a guy who we want as our top line winger, and not wonder about which position he should actually play.

I'll call this the anti-Flyer drafting strategy. Those fellas seem to go with the BACC strategy - best available Canadian centre.

26th or so to fifth is a large leap. plus, leafs need d/g before trading up to take a forward.

bergevin can have lucic as his consolation prize for missing out on stamkos. 7 years @ 6m should make a nice anchor contract.

Tkuchuk is too small to perform his role as power forward in a men's league. He's fine against boys but you need someone much bigger than 5'11" and 198lbs for that role in the NHL.

Not sure I see that materializing. Would love it if so, depending on the cost. I just don't see what the Leafs have (that they'd be willing to part with) in order to make that happen. I suppose there are variables involving which teams will pick where and the leafs excess of servicable bodies.

With the rankings varying as they are, a late round pick may have a lot of value as some of these kids are expected to be passed over due to the overall depth in this years first round. McCleod for example. Despite his ranking he could realisticly be available quite late.

Top 5 might be a little too brave a move. 15-20 maybe more their flavour.

Tchachuk is listed as 6'1" 196...and 18years old. Not small at all.

In response to Symba007's trading into to top 5 post. Apparently I'm having issues attaching quotes

Leafs have a poop load of forward prospects and will pick another with their top pick. They really need another young, top D.

Gonna just draft London guys year after year?

Seems a little narrow minded IMO

I don't usually care about the draft much either. If we get the 1st, I guess I will.

Tchachuk is a top line winger and Canadian. Would that work for you?
