They're doomed anyhow with Neuvirth out. Steve Mason isn't a number one goalie.

I actually read that as a response to a story about Neuvirth's injury. Are Flyers fans really this (frank)ing stupid?

Apparently so. It's sad. Mase has been nothing but solid during his time here. He's upped his game of late, and that game vs Pitt should have been an even worse blowout. The team has to rebound but I have zero worry about our tending.

This season has probably been his worst and at worst he's been solid. For 3 plus seasons, he's been very good to outstanding for the Flyers. Drives me batpoop to hear folks shred him.

I'm not an elitist fan, but there are a lot of people that watch the game, and don't really understand it. I play and watch the game, and I think it gives me a better understanding than some have. It's my passion. Goaltending is such a tough position to play, and I have a real respect for how well mase has done over his time here, with a sub par d corps.

Having said all this, there are many people that don't play that also have a very good understanding of the game as well. I try to believe these goofs that say Mason stinks are the minority.

I remember hearing season ticket holders at games a few years back all agree that we should trade Coots for Ryan Miller because Mason isn't a legit number 1.

A large portion of this fanbase is just a notch above brain-dead.

It's ok to start Stolarz tomorrow night. The Jackets lost to Scott Wedgewood last night.

Time for Giroux to get going. Hey, I think he is great but he only has 2 assists in his last 5 games. Tonight is the right time to come up with a big game. This team needs him to ultimately be successful

It's not about Mason.

It's about stolarz. 4 back to backs to finish the year. We need to give Mason a break stolarz needs to go out there and give us 2 games where he plays well enough that we can win.

Go Flyers... beat the Islanders... give Pitt an easier cushion for the #2 seed... and hopefully the Panthers will slump down into the opposite #3 seed (nevermind, I be stupid when its early) >_>

Why do you want the panthers in the other 3 seed?

Assuming we will face them as the other 3 seed, with the Penguins being the 2 seed here. Of course, there is the chance of facing the metro 3 seed, but nothing I can do about that if the points fall in that manner.

Or is it really early in the morning, and I'm being a moron on how the matchups work?

edit: yeah, its early and I am being stupid. Looks like its gonna be the Rangers again for the Pens at this rate

Mason's play in the playoffs proved to me we can win with this guy. Sure they lost game 7, but it wasn't because of him. Maybe if they scored more than A goal or had the Rangers D, the outcome could've been different

Agreed. Giroux is a great player, but he's had an average year at best by his standards. Time for him to put the team on his back and carry them to the playoffs.

Quotes not working, but in response to minority fans not appreciating Mason... I saw so many posts / comments saying Neuvirth is the much better goalie overall. And you ask them what team Neuvy was on last year and they can't tell you anything about the guy before this year. Whereas Mason has been a our go to for 3 seasons and was arguably our team MVP last year other than Jake. It's a joke.

Exactly he is capable just needs to get it going. Hate to say but Crosby has clearly put his team on his back and it (Frank)ing sucks.. For us anyway

Yup. 3 months where Neuvirth outplayed Mason is worth more than the 3 plus seasons of very good to outstanding play Mason has provided for the Flyers.

In fact, since January 1st Mason has been the better goalie, at least statistically. Neuvirth has allowed 36 goals on 400 shots for a .910 save %. Mason has allowed 47 goals on 594 shots, which gives him a .920 save %

Nonsense. Neuvirth has more than proven to be the superior goalie to Mason, as was evidenced by his Nittymaki-like hot stretch.
