Peter Tessier: Return of Ladd & Pavelec Rant. Jets host the Blackhawks and the return of former captain Andrew Ladd but all the talk in Winnipeg is buying out Pavelec. LOL

A good read, buying out Pavelec to me would work if they have a replacement to look at. Personally I would buy him out and go with Reimer / Hutchingson as long as Reimer doesn't want too much term (last thing you want to do is turn one Pavelec into another). I do think Reimer is worth the risk but even then there is no point in taking an unnecessary risk when standing pat with Pavelec only has one year left.

oh well Peter, it's only for maybe one more year and it's as a back up. It's almost over, and on the bright side maybe he'll lead us to our first lottery win.

The point is not about Hellebuyck and I did mention him, it's about the sudden and remarkable realization about Pavelec.

I'm guessing we go with Heleybuck and Pav next year and posibly unload Pav near the deadline for a mid round pick to a team with goalie injuries. Hutch probably gets traded this summer for a late pick. Planning ahead, if players with NMC's are auto protected from the expansion draft we should give Helleybuck a bridge NMC after next year when he is an RFA so we can protect Comrie from Expansion.

My understanding if the draft is before July 1s 2017, then players like Comrie would only be in their second year of service and therefore exempt from the expansion draft. That would also include Morrissey and Ethlers.

What is really mind boggling is the amount of people who constantly defend pavelec on facebook and twitter after he lets in 4 goals. Its always someone else to blame! Chevy officially has his bad contract on the books, but fortunately its only 1 more year. I really don't see winnipeg buying him out, they should rather trade him away to a team for future considerations, someone will take his 3.9 million dollar cap...
Peter, thanks for writing this article, I agree with you 100%.

So your putting the blame of this horrible season on one player... Come on that one player was out for half the season. I don't even think if the jets had Quick and put him in that he would do that well. Face it this team as a whole sucks. Tonight could be a perfect example. Turnovers! When the team hangs their goalie out to dry like that how do you think he should stop all of them. Hell this team has yet to play of full 60 minute game this season. It's ridiculous! I am not defending Pav. I don't really like him but I see it like this all the players that have contracts up next year (UFA) will probably be traded either at the draft this summer or at trade deadline next year. Especially if the jets wait until trade deadline they could get some very good draft picks/prospects. And the reason Chevy signed Pav is that at the time the jets organization was going through the draft and development project. So as I see it most of the current players that are over 25 won't be there when the jets start getting into the playoffs a lot (hopefully).

Can you remember when the blackhawks were at the bottom a lot well they got Toews and Kane and now you see how great they are.

But I also think if the jets have the one of the worst PP & PK why are the assistant coaches not fired at this point. The jets also have to draft some players that can win faceoffs. Against Calgary the jets lost over half.

The lineup that started this season I was not that surprised that they are at the bottom especially when the division the jets are in every team upgraded their rosters and the jets inserted youth. But I really hope this team doesn't rush their youth or this draft and development project will fail (ie Edmonton)

I don't think anyone is putting the blame on just one player. The simple fact is he is part of the problem and there are no nhl teams that succeed with bad goaltending. his career record shows how bad of a goaltender he really is. He can come up with wins and steal a game here and there, but he's not consistent. Even last year before he had his magical once in a career run for 10 games he let a terrible goal in against st louis.
The jets probably over performed last year but it was good to see them get into the playoffs. the fans really wanted that! The future is still very bright for this team, we have solid prospects but we need stability in between the pipes, Helly is that guy based on what I'm seeing right now, Pavelec is not, and Hutch is not (unless he can play consistently like earlier last season).
You're right bringing up the Blackhawks, they have 2 solid players, but the team was assembled with more than just that. They drafted and developed very well. They have solid defense, they've found a solid goaltender (who probably is over rated a little bit because of the team in front of him, but he is a very good goaltender and I won't take that way from him). The jets have some youngsters who are going to shape this team for years to come. Ehlers, Conner, Sheifman, Myers, Trouba (if he can get out of his funk), Helly etc. They've done a very good job drafting but don't have that 'star' power that chicago has. They're going to pick up yet another really good player this year at the draft. All they need to do is draft in the top 6 to pickup 6 impact players and future stars, the top 4 would be amazing, I don't think it matters which player they end up with.

While I can't speak for Peter, I never saw him blaming Pavelec completely, but Pavelec needs to go. He needs a fresh start elsewhere. The jets need to move on to their goaltending prospects. And yes we need some pieces up front but 5 years ago they had inherited the Atlanta mess. The entire team has done a good job getting to where they are today.
