they went into 2 cities where they dont play well with back to back games and 3 points so that is a plus...the shootout has always been a sore spot for this organization and Mason looked like a cardboard stiff

I hope Nuveirth doesn't have that nasty virus that's been going around. People at my job have been dealing with that for a while now. He might miss Tuesday and Wednesday. Kind of like the flu, but only with the symptoms.

They should have just put stolarz in for the shootout. Throw a curveball at least, right now it's a big fat Joe Blanton fastball coming at them. 3 out of 4 is great though but the back to backs and the final 4 games in 5 days is really going to gas this team

Wings up next, and the Pens 3 more times. Flyers really control their own destiny. Cousins centering the third line has really added a scoring dimension the team didn't have for much of the season from the bottom six.

Btw, Provorov is now a modest +61.

3 out of 4 points in TB and Florida is tough to do. Would have loved to get 4 points.
Having a PP in OT was a golden opportunity, when it went to the shootout I didn't even bother watching.

I think the way into the playoffs might be to beat out Pittsburgh. With 3 games head to head, and no Malkin the rest of the season, it is very possible. The Wings are playing the Leafs in Hockeytown tonight, so the Flyers will take the ice vs. Detroit Tuesday evening 5 points behind with a couple games in hand. It will be critical to win Tuesday in regulation.

Cousins and Gagner have really played well. They have to stay in the lineup. VV should be the odd man out. He hasn't been a healthy scratch once this year, so it probably won't start now Hakstol is loyal to his UND boy. Hakstol has done a great job. The only issue I have had with him is the constant interchanging of Medvedev/Manning, and his blind loyalty to Vande Velde.

3 out of 4 points in a tough back to back is a good achievement, and maybe the best thing about it is we are all kind of pissed they didn't lock up the 4th point.

Upset at the defensive breakdowns last night that cost them a regulation win. Gudas looked bad on the two goals, which marred a good rebound for him over the past week or two from his dip following the MDZ injury.

Medvedev continues to be the biggest disappointment to me. Really good advanced numbers, got an assist. But questionable decision making and a bushel of bad turnovers belie those positives. Hakstol benches Medvedev for the same reasons that Cechmanek drove Hitchcock nuts-you never know what you're getting game to game or even shift to shift.

Cheer against the Pens... Just keep telling yourself it's not quite the same thing as rooting for the Rags

Thanks Bill. Well, that was a tough loss. Just when you think things are going our way during the game, boom, the bottom drops out. We let 2 points slip away, and I still don't think that we will make the playoffs with this team. You usually get the team that falls behind early, or the team that can't close out games. Pick your poison. They play well during stretches of the game, but other times, they look like the Keystone Cops running around. They seem to play to the other team's level, and let the other team dictate what is going to be the outcome of the game. It's as painful to watch as a tailgater on the highway; first they tailgate you, then they finally pass you, only to slow down once they get in front of you...lol.
It will be interesting to see how they respond to the next game. Will they feel sorry for themselves, and implode, or will they rise to the challenge, and go on a roll?

VandeVelde is definitely odd man out for me in this lineup.

Gagner has played really well, to the point I'm wondering what the Flyers are going to do with him and White. I'm starting to think I wouldn't hate giving both 1 year extensions. Just spit balling a future line-up here...

Schenn-Giroux-Simmonds
Laughton-Couturier-Voracek
Gagner-Cousins-Konecny
Raffl-Bellemare-White
-VandeVelde, Free Agent/Leier/Bardreau/etc

MDZ-Schultz
Gostisbehere-Gudas
AMac-Provorov/Sanheim/Morin/Hagg
-Free Agent

(Trade Streit and Read, resign Gagner and White, buy-out Umberger, One defensive rookie makes team, one FA dman, Konecny makes team, and either a FA forward or Phantom makes team)

I'm trying to envision this current line-up with some added skating and skill elements. The Lighting and the Panthers are two very good teams. 3 out of 4 points on this trip isn't bad at all, especially considering these games were back to back. To beat the Lighting the way we did and then take the Panthers the very next night all the way to a shoot-out is impressive IMO.

Really, really liking what Hakstol is building here. I haven't seen a Flyers team defend this cohesively in quite awhile. Every team has their breakdowns obviously, but this team is starting to consistently get a great defensive effort from all 5 guys on the ice. It's very fun to watch.

Just a tad bit more skill and skating ability and I think we're really onto something here.
