Read an Interesting trade rumour on SI

Loui to Blackhawks for Dano and a 1st, then flip that 1st plus a younger roster player or prospect for van Reimsdyk. JVR AAV is 4.25 for the next 2 years

It's intriguing but I still don't know how it fixes the defensive side of things.

Definitely doesn't, but it replaces Loui, and comes in cheaper. I cant see how trading Loui for a defenceman is going to help this team. Would guys like Scandella or Dumba or Kris Russell help? Absolutely, but they aren't really going to make a big enough difference to what's going on back there right now. We need at least TWO of these guys to start making a difference. One of the only good things with this team right now is having two legitimate scoring lines. Trading Loui for picks and prospects alone gets rid of that.

I have read that the Bs have allowed more goals scored than any team in the playoffs right now, other than Colorado. 21st in the NHL in GA. They have the worst home record of any team in as well.

D is the number 1-3 issue of need on this team. At number 4 is top 6 scoring winger. They are THIRD in the NHL in GF. They are definitely top heavy in that category thou. But, scoring 6 goals isn't likely in a playoff game, especially when the other team game plans against your top guys.

And again, this team needs D-men (notice the plural) for NEXT YEAR and beyond. How people do not understand the dire situation this team is in "for next season" is crazy. As is they are worse next season then this season, that's not how you build for the future.

I would like to see one of Shattenkirk, Dumba or Vatanen. I'm hopeful that Anaheim is missing what Beauchemin brought to the table and maybe they'd want to take Seidenberg off our hands also as part of a sizable deal. Also someone I'd hate to see depart, but I just can't see Chara waiving his NTC with either new or expected twins (I thought I had heard), and I'm not sure I want to see that yet. That's a lot of salary for Anaheim but they, according to Hockey's Cap, have just north of $8M.

I like Vatanen, but I don't think he is what Boston needs. They need a new Seidenberg and/or Chara kind of guy. Someone who blocks shots, shuts down the D, and has some speed hopefully. I Think Dumba is the best bet, with his additional offensive upside. The problem is he is young and inconsistent. He could flop and be a bottom pairing guy. I think if Minnesota gave another pick in the mix, maybe a 2nd and Dumba for Louie, then we can listen.

There just doesn't seem to be a clear cut match and favorite for a defender at this point. Just going to have to wait and see Sweeney Todd does.

In the meantime we have 20 + games of pure mediocrity to go. Hi 5!

Perfectly willing to trade Loui. Selling high on an expiring deal is smart business.

That being said, it just seems like losing Loui will hurt our top-heavy forward group without helping the core of the D in any way. I know we have NHL-ready talent in Providence. I just think they're perfect 3rd line NHL talent. Love Vatrano, he should feast on good matchups, but is he a regular top-6 guy? Not convinced.

Also, sort of related: I think Beleskey and Hayes are better candidates to replace with AHL talent. Nothing against those two, they do the job they're paid to do. They are not the problem with this team. Combined 6mil salary tho? Meh. I'd rather stay top-heavy at forward and mix and match for a cheaper bottom 6.

Belesky is leading the team in hits and was just signed to replace Lucic (essentially) and has a no-trade I believe. I agree with Hayes, unless he starts to heat up soon, but he can be replaced with Vatrano and the team gains over a million in space and doesn't get worse. The problem is again that you are giving up on the trade with Smith (and a ripple effect of the Seguin trade). I don't think management trades him for nothing, and he won't fetch much.

Yeah, all true. Like I said, they aren't the problem. Maybe I'm just tired of 3rd liners with stone hands that aren't helping Spooner play to his strengths. Vatrano and Spoons seem like a a great fit, skill-wise

You are right about those guy in my opinion. Add Connolly to that list, as I think he has shown less than the other two, maybe on par with Hayes. Although he does "try hard." But they are 3rd liners. Beleskey is worth it with his grinding and hitting thou.

The Loui trade is more about 3 years from now. Heck, even next season.

Spooner, Koko, Griffith, Vatrano, and the next prospect. We have not given enough time to the young forwards. To much of a clog on the third lines. Gave up on and tried to unload Spooner to the Sabers last season!

I'm with you, I'm so sick of the third line plugs we hoard. Heart guys are great, but we need skill to burry the puck. Look at what happened in the Habs series a few seasons ago.........please give Bergy, Krejci and Spoons some skill guys.
