I think Detroit is the team Ottawa has the best chance of catching. Just my feeling. Most say Boston but I think Detroit is ripe for the plucking.
Ottawa 5-2 tonight. |

Joe Sakic on the Avs search for a top 4 D:
"We could use a a solid (defenseman)," Sakic said. "You're not going to get top-four 'D.' Teams aren't giving those guys up. But just to add some more depth, we've been trying to do and we'll continue to try to do."
Love you Dion.

It does seem impossible to get a good dman via trade these days. Every team needs one |

I think this game will determine a lot. Basically the Sens have to win 3/4 games remains to make the playoffs. So if you look at their remaining 4 games before the trade deadline they need a minimum 6/8 points to stay alive. The results will effect personnel decisions.
As I've mentioned before Western teams are very interested in Smith and Neil. I wouldn't be surprised if both were dealt together to either the Blues/Hawks.
As far as Drouin goes the Sens tabled the last offer but Yzerman is pondering other options(Jets/Wild/Ducks) and probably prefers to move him out West. That said Murray has offered the best package thus far.

Ceci was definitely part of it in the past, right? 1 for 1 I would do that for Ottawa. In 2 years, he makes Ryan despensible. Good long term move, he could play 1C if needed. Although the already weak defense will need some fixing if Ceci does go... |

Ryan Strome, Mika Zibanejad, Mark Scheifele, and Sean Couturier (all picked in 2011 draft in that order) --- all haven't been scoring the way a 2nd line center should (on a contender).
That to me is 20 goals, OR 50 points MINIMUM. If you have a top line center that hits 70 point, then 20/25 is fine; if the center is playing great all around.
Zibanejad is a BIG x-factor on this team - especially with Turris being hurt and not being able to produce. But even then, he and Lazar have to carry the load physically and production wise. |

I would flip Zibanejad if I were the GM. He doesn't have the "it" factor and seems like the type of player that needs others to be good around him in order to show up. It should be the other way around, especially if his goal is to center a line. Turris hasn't been the same since the injury so its pointless to blame him at the moment. I have an inkling that Zibanejad is the player Cup is hinting towards as trade bait for Drouin. No opposition from me on that front. |

I'm glad that BM is GM and not you.
Zibanejad is just learning his skill before he steps into his size. You can bet that he is going to be good some day but he may take a couple years before he gets there. Why trade him? He's not going to get you much anyways.
Try trading MacArthur or Prince instead. Too many passengers on the Sens lineup but we gave up 3 players in the Phaneuf trade to create some room. Time to start moving out some bodies and hope for something nice at the draft. Even if they made the playoffs they would most likely be out in the first round anyways.
BM wants to leave his mark on the Sens before he retires and I think he goes for a top 2LW soon and sets the team up for the next couple of years. They have some nice prospects coming up but by Melnyk not signing any rentals so far we may have the room for a sweet addition next year. Give up a pick or two and set things up nicely for next year. We don't need any more second or third line players. We have enough already.
And I don't think Drouin would be the guy to help us. He's still not proven although he has a lot of potential. The question is how much would it cost you for him. Unless SY drops his expectations then I wouldn't even entertain it. There's a reason he's not playing. |

Yeah... Mika is 22. Everyone needs to settle down
All of the 'veteran' forwards who were supposed to play bigger roles have all been duds: Greening, Michalek, MacArthur. Does Turris draw the attention that other number one centers get? Especially now hurt. Which puts more pressure on Mika.
Drouin might be an exception, because of higher upside, but what do you really think they could get for him? A top 10 pick? That won't happen. A mid to late first round pick? Then you could get another Lazar.
Then you are trading Mika for an unknown. Is 20 goals, 50 points so bad? |

That's right boys. Get closer to the Pens first and the hell away from the bottom. |

Good news: Seems like Bobby Ryan is not falling as much
Bad news: Seems like he is losing the puck off his stick way too much, without anyone touching it |

If Sens get 4 points out west - add to the team without overpaying + adding pieces that will be here beyond this season
If Sens don't get 4 points - trade Smith, Neil if the value is there. Make what's best for next year and see where you finish.
What murray will likely do? Probably not much. May add a piece (small) ... hope I'm wrong, but that's what he usually does. If Drouin happens, maybe it's a way to steal him like Yzerman did with Bishop |
