If Hamhuis wants to stay then you offer him an extension IMO. This is a BC lad that wants to play for his team and will likely take a discount. The guy can still play and contribute to the team. It would be nice to trade him and re-sign him in the summer but if he won't waive then give him a short extension, hopefully without a full NTC.

This is classic turd material from that eastern shiite dreger: "Darren Dreger on the Dan Hamhuis trade situation: “There are teams and people out there trying to conjure up scenarios where he’s a good fit here or there. I don’t think there’s a greal deal of activity – not to say there isn’t interest, there might be – but because he controls the process, Jim Benning will have to be patient.”

what's this numbskull saying that we don't already know...???

Tampa needs a solid dman and fast since Garrison is out 5 weeks or so... Hamhuis would be a nice piece to that puzzle for a cup run... same with Fla and the Caps.

Saw the Caps and Isles farm clubs play last night in Hershey at the Giant Center and I have to say, i'm not impressed with 'David' Bowey... best player on the ice in terms of skills was a guy named Vrana for the Bears and Quine for the tigers. another caps prospect 'Bill' Barber was pretty good too. For the Isles, Mayfield and Quine were noticeable on the night.

interesting to note Scott Gomez and Chris Bourque got a lot of icetime...

won't be surprised if Gomez gets a callup in case of injury... though his skating has to get better i imagine...

but Vrana, he made moves like a young bure without the mean streak or muscle strength

I did stats for the Ottawa/Detroit game last night, and Phaneuf did have a terrible pylon moment that led to a Red Wings goal. I think he can be a useful defenceman, but that play wasn't a good look at all.

Thank you for another excellent blog, you rock.

Everyone has players that they like or would prefer over others, but I would give your opinion much more credence over the casual fan. Primarily because this is your vocation and you're complying stats on a regular basis.

But this casual fan has been watching Dion Pylon since he broke into the league and I'd rather sign a multitude of average d-men over DP any day of the week.

Its a stupid tsn story. They have a lack of stories right now and employ too many "reporters". So at times like this they make stories from nothing, Regurgitate the same story but with twist, use conjecture or pose a question etc to make something sound reportable.
It's like in the quiet summer months when there was a story if Mcjesus picked his nose, cut his toenails, called his mom or got a haircut.

Mcjesus doesn't do any of that. He is to busy saving the Alberta economy and cuddling sick babies back to health.

exactly, except that turdburger does it all the time, and makes it sound like he knows something about the Canucks when can't even spell Vancouver imo...

For what it's worth.

1040 reported that Nashville offered a pick ( not specified ) and Eric Nystrom for Higgins but Benning turned it down.

Nystrom is 2.5 cap hit for 1 more year.

They also said that a Prust for Bickell was discussed although didn't specify if a pick was included as well.

Bickell makes 4 for 1 more season.

Frankly, with the salary and term I'm happy he stayed away from those offers.

Higgins and Nystrom have the exact same contract minus the NTC, had Benning actually been offered that deal, I don't see why he wouldn't of taken it.

Maybe he doesn't want to help his potential Wild Card competition?

He said he would eat salary for anyone that offered any value. So I thinks it's safe to assume he wasn't offered a draft pick

Also, why would he be concerned about helping NAS? Presumably if we were dumping a player not good enough for our 4th line I doubt he would be concerned with Higgins helping a team make the playoffs

Probably because he didn't want either of them.

Maybe because it wasn't offered, don't believe anything 1040 says.
