Holtby or Crawford. Lu is having a nice year. Underrated goalie for sure but often underperforms in the playoffs.

What does his past years playoff performances have to do with this seasons mid season vezina ranking?

Crawford is the best goalie on Earth right now.

Lazy out of town reporters always fall back on "well Crawford has a better team in front of him..."

Look at where the Blackhawks are in giving up shots on goal. Bottom of the league . This isnt the Blackhawks of recent where they can shut everyone down defensivley.

Crawford is #1 in

Save % and shutouts.

Crawford has literally saved the Hawks ass this year . Crawford has probably won 10 games by himself.

Holtby has been awesome too but Crawford is in a zone like we've never seen him be in . THANK GOD 50 gets the all star game off to rest up. Q has been riding him hard

That take is about as fair and balanced as fox news, but I agree...he would win midseason vezina. All four main guys mentioned deserve to be considered

That's why it's regular season award.

Crawford is extremely underrated. He does to be a finalist yes, but a lot of the top goalies from last year are struggling. Dubynk and Rinne aren't the same. Price and Bobrovsky are injured. The Metro is the division of the goalie. Holtby and Schiender deserve to be there. King Henrik has down well lately. Ek would pick Kari Ramo, but I'd say it's Holtby's year this year. He has been a big factor to why the Caps are doing so well. There was a point this season where he went undefeated for almost two months. Two months without a loss. Who was the last goalie to pull that off???

Crawford, Holtby, and Mrazek would be my finalists right now.

I think Crawford would win it if they voted today (and it would be deserved), but my vote would be for Schneider. He has been unreal this season.

He's given up 2 goals or less in like 25 out of his last 36 starts.

I think they're all great goalies but you have to give it to Crawford. He's saved the Hawks numerous times.

Fair question, and you're correct, just seems to me playoff results should matter for goalies, remains to be seen how Lu will do this year. All I was saying.

It's a regular season award specifically for this season

Right. Got it. Thanks.

It was really more a comment on Lu in general, specifically "Underrated goalie for sure but often underperforms in the playoffs."

Not this year, since the playoffs haven't happened yet. And they don't matter as far as the Vezina, in theory, but in reality, as everyone knows, reputations do matter.

There are lots of metrics supporting Crawford, but folks like to give credit to the team in front of him. The thing that stands out to me, (From war-on-ice) is that no goalie has made more 5v5 High Danger saves. This is evidence of just how much Crawford has bailed out the Hawks for their defensive lapses this season. The team in front of him isn't making it easy and has been taking entire periods off where Crawford holds the fort. He is earning strong consideration this year.

Why should playoff results matter for goalies and not skaters? Especially when considering regular season awards?
