Yeah, we dont have what it takes to pull if off. Also hornqvist is finding his game again. I think the stat they showed up yesterday during the game is that he had 9 points in his last 6 games. Quite good.

We'll finally see if Pouliot has gotten any better. Maybe playing for Sullivan will do him some good (as it did for the whole team)

I predict a lot of people ripping on RW without reading the blog first on this one.

But yeah, I agree this is a no go, but not for the reason you stated. I think the Blues would very much listen to a Hornqvist centric package, but I don't view Horny as expendable like you do. He's playing way too well right now and brings a game that no one else on our roster does.

Would love to have him on the team, but this is a good explanation why it makes little sense for this team.

i think we have a good team right now. we have been playing some good hockey as of late. lets ride with what we have for the rest of the year and see if we can squeak into the playoffs. if we play like we did yesterday i think we can make a pretty decent run.

So, if not Shatenkirk, then who, Franson, Byfuglien, or some other option? It seems like the only one the Pens could afford is Franson. Would Buffalo take Lovejoy and a pick for Franson?

Agreed. Not to mention the remarkable upgrade already with Daley for Scuds. I'm still stunned by that deal......even with the salary retention.

No chance on Buffalo taking Lovejoy. The pick is all it would likely take.

I think the real question is why would you want Franson to begin with?

I would much rather see if Pouliot based deal got us in the ballpark of Drouin, Barrie, Vatanen, hell even Kreider because of my man crush....I just can't be on board with trading Pouliot for anyone due to make $7M.

For now, if Pouliot can be the '08 version of Letang I am perfectly fine keeping him. Let him play on the bottom pairing and feed pucks to the Malkin line. I really like Daley on the PP but hope Lord Ricky gets some looks on the 2nd PP even when Tanger is back.

Still worried about too many LD long term and how that makes Lovejoy a "neccesity" in the D rotation.

That list of names on the roster for the price next year sucks. Kuni, Daley, Hags, Cole, Hopefully Hags can produce or he will be an overpaid 3rd liner.

Interested to see if DP plays what he can do. Hopefully he's ready to make an impact and not worried about making mistakes. Too many other players already do that.

I tend to think DP is more aerodynamic now without his mop top.

Slight rebuild. Selling all our ufas for mid picks, bring up rookies and getting top 5 pick isn't really a rebuild when you are only talking about 3-4 players max

I think the blues would be wise to take a hornquist type deal , but I don't think Pitt should make the trade. All we were told in the offseason was just how much offensive depth we had , but seeing the roster yesterday , there were like 4 guys that I hadn't even heard of!! You trade hornquist and who slots into the top 6 ? Bennett for 2 games before the next injury ? Sheary? Bonino ? No thanks , we need hornquist for the rest of the season at least .

Yep a few weeks ago which ironically was followed by his game picking up. Oddly funny.

Agreed. He's been playing great as of late as well. Also would rather keep Pouliot as he is cost controlled and will most likely be cheap for the next 5-6 years rather than a 4.25mil cap hit next year that will walk for nothing..

I love to rip on RW, but won't on this one. While I'm a big fan of Shattenkirk's and think he would be a big need, I'm not willing to send what it takes to get him in hopes that we can resign him after next year at a pretty steep price ... when you consider we have Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Kessell taking up a huge percentage of the cap space. Shattenkirk is nothing more than a fantasy for Pittsburgh, not a reality or a true option.

Letang and Bennett on the ice as is Zatkoff (expected to start). Bortuzzo isn't playing tonight (undisclosed injury).
