Malone had a similar hit on Toronto player not too long ago as well. He follows through with his legs on both hits which can be considered slew foot-like. It's needless for him to do that and the fact he's done it more than once raises a red flag.


Hopefully someone (frank)s him up next game.

McDonald has been a decent 12/13 forward before...not sure what he has left in the tank, but perhaps we shall see

This is what frustrates me about this flyers team. The following players are all proving that it is a stretch to call them "top six" forwards: Simmonds, Read, Couturier and Raffl. You know have a injury situation that requires a call up from the Phantoms. The flyers call up Colin McDonald.

How about admitting you have a problem scoring goals especially from your "top six" group? How about calling up a young player that is showing potential and insert them in the top six? Any one of Cousins, Straka and Martel have a equal chance of success as the others named above. Calling up Ghost on defense and his immediate impact is proof that the NHL is a young man's league (see Vinny and Umby for proof).

This team is stuck in a mentality that you must be an experienced veteran to play in the top six. It's not working.....the existing players are not succeeding. Look around the league and see the number of young players succeeding in today's NHL.

I am fed up.

Didn't notice it last night, but after seeing replays again today, yes.

I noticed the drag of the leg immediately. He kinda high/lowed him by dragging the leg and pushing the shoulder. Its not exactly a slew foot, but just as dangerous and stupid. I have had it happen to me before. You can only hope to defend against it by kind of spinning like Gagner did, but if you topple over... oofff.

All that is going to do is kill any chance of trading those vets while the kids that come up put up numbers that will only make their 2nd contracts more expensive

I would also have called up Straka.

But I don't think Vinny and Umberger are in the same situation. Vinny can't skate well enough to play. Umberger looked a lot faster this season and was contributing at a reasonable level until he took a puck to the foot, which is not an age related injury.

That's exactly what they did to start the season with Manning and MacDonald. Of course Manning is playing so poorly he's actually in line for a pay cut on his next contract, should they be foolish enough to give him one.

You can absolutely interrupt the momentum and progress a young player has been making in the minors, and set him back. A player like Straka finally seems like he's making his way forward. I can understand if the Flyers just want to let him be for now, and continue what he's doing.

Every player is an individual. It's amazing how many posts there are that the Flyers are just stuck in some outdated philosophy, and just don't know what they're doing. Sometimes there are reasons that aren't considered, or information that is not known, that comes into the decisions that a team makes.
