i think the size of the net is the way to go. if they reduce padding, we'll hear issues around player safety

i'm just amazed at the size difference in goalies and the amount of space they take up in net...that gretzky/smith video really did it for me

I'll go ahead and ask out loud: is it time to trade Evan Rodriguez?

Bylsma has it right. Call the rulebook as written, make the goalie equipment smaller, and get angled posts/crossbars.

does the size of the equipment/nets change for overtime??

No. but scoring isnt an issue. Why? more open ice.

Call the games correctly. Allow skilled players to display said skill. it will initially lead to an abundance of power plays, which is fine. then followed by guys not wanting to end up in the box constantly so the clutching and grabbing will end- therefore opening up the ice for skilled players.

no need to alter the nets in every rink in the world (good god).

and i love the attack on goalies.

No mention of the body armor that players now don allowing them to fearlessly block 2/3rds of all shot attempts and throw themselves around with no fear of injury. just imagine if there were still consequences for blocking a shot- now imagine the shots that would now get through to the net.

its like the powers that be are saying "the roof has a leak and the bucket is full. well, guess we have to get a bigger bucket..."

No. Fix the damn leak in the roof!!!

so goalies should be punished for being bigger, more athletic, and playing the position better/smarter?

players are also much bigger than they used to be- but they benefit from each and every possible technological advancement in gear, wear suits of armor, and are armed with carbon fiber assault rifles.

"if I put one traditional net at one end of the rink while at the other end is a net increased by one inch...."
you know whats really sad? This will probably actually happen in a playoff game at some point.

While Jack Eichel and Max Reinhart have been equally impressive in their rookie seasons, it's a third-year defenseman impressing many as the Buffalo Sabres are off to a surprising 4-1-1 start in November.

Leading his team in ice time, averaging over 24 minutes a night in the early going, Ristolainen has six points in his last four games, and is well on pace to surpass his 20-point campaign from last season.

Bylsma:
"[goalie equipment] can be reduced in several areas, their pants and some of the 'quote, unquote' padding that they use."

did you see the gretzky breakaway on smith video in the blog?
