Do you like Mac more as a second line center, or winger? I like Soderberg on the 3rd line a lot more than the 2nd.

Mack at C, its where he belongs so Av Fans are glad he is finally going back there.
Dutch/MacK/Soderberg feels like solid C depth

Agreed, they are much more dangerous with that as their center depth.

Think Hishon sneaks in as a top 9 winger then?

Won't be under Roy, he wants big wingers. Landy and rantanen are his ideal wingers. Hish can be a 4C if he becomes clutch at winning faceoffs. If he can improve that and win Roy's trust to take defensive zone starts then he will make the team.

They also have Grigorenko to fill in at 3C, but he will start the season as a winger

Grigo is still a bit of an enigma. You see a lot of talent when he plays but starts to become a little too indecisive with the puck, almost like he doesnt know if he should go full russian or not.

I wrote this in the last Avs thread, they added a lot of youth in their roster overturn (8 new guys), so might be growing pains with some of them.

Rantanen (18) - 0 NHL games
Grigorenko (21) - 68 NHL games
Zadarov (20) - 67 NHL games
Gormley (23) - 32 NHL games

Its crazy to think Grigo in 3 seasons of being talked about, being bounced around the NHL, AHL, juniors, by the sabres only has 68 games experience. Still lots of time needed to really mature.

Regarding Grigorenko as a C, doesn't he do well on FO's?

Well I sure like adding Comeau to replace McGinn in the line-up. We weren't able to replace Ginner last season, we just kept bringing up 4th liners onto the third line. Really threw the top 9 forward depth for a loop because any injury after that and the talent just wasn't there.

So that turns losing ROR into Zadarov and Grigo.

If Zadarov turns out as well as i'm thinking he will then i'm all for the Grigo experiment. I just hope they both have a solid first season because I have a feeling that Buffalo team with ROR/Kane/Eichel/Moulson is going to produce. We all know if ROR is scoring and the Avs are struggling....oh man is it going to be tiring hearing about it.

I dont care either way, ROR had to go, and if Duchene who is one of the most sicerest honest guys on the team is hinting that ROR was a bad/weird teammate away from the ice and that it was a distraction, and you get similar quotes from EJ and Landy. You have to feel that it was time.

Zads will pan out, hes an NHL body with raw potential, he would never be considered a bust and at the vest least will be a Top 4 Dmen, hopefully he hits that top pairing franchise potential he has. Grigo is a wild card but he has talent too, just needs to put it all together.

Dont forget the Avs got Compher, AJ Greer and a 2016 2nd round pick out of all this too, It will be years and years until they see a true winner out of this deal. But if what Dutch and crew have been saying about ROR, just moving on from the distraction could be considered a win for now.

I guess that's one of the biggest things going into this season for me. Duchene. So if it takes a distraction off him, that's another win. Duchene can't be hanging around the 100th scorer in the league again and expect the Avs to succeed. Whoever ends up on his line this year, they have to produce. The numbers would have been even worse last year if it wasn't for a late Iginla goal binge when the season was already out of reach.

Landeskog has found pretty consistent chemistry with both Stastny and ROR. He's also had success with Mack on the other wing. It seems like our captain can just work with anyone.

I really want to see Duchene get back up there, no excuses, time to get it going. We can all see how talented he is but it needs to show up in the box score.

Is anyone else surprised that Tim Hortons has a hockey card collection and the Avs are Landeskog, Mackinnon and Iginla? All worthy dudes but where's Duchene? lol

It does sound like eventually Roy is going to split up Iggy and Duchene and move Rantanen to that spot, based on his comments yesterday. Which I think is the right move, just give time for Rant to adjust to meaningful NHL game speed and then give him tough match ups 25-30 games into the season on Dutch's line.

Dutch was getting the Stastny treatment last year, with lots of D-Zone starts, however with Soderberg in the mix and with a stronger 3rd line wingers, I can see him getting more D-Zone starts, which will start to free up Dutch to produce if hes getting more neutral and offensive zone starts. Thats why I really like the Soderberg signing to be 3rd C. Hes going to do a lot of defensive heavy lifting for the Avs

Grigorenko Duchene Rantanen
Landeskog MacKinnon Iginla
Tanguay Soderberg Comeau
McLeod Mitchell Skille
Rendulic

Edit: Looks like Everberg is down in the AHL, not the worst since he was banged up, time for him to heal and get some playing time. I like Rendulic as the 13th forward. Not a bad looking line up

I liked DDM's comments about patience with this team, that it is young and will need to develop. I see that and agree with it.

My observation from the Frozen Fury game is that with EJ/Beauch (although no Ej in the game with ), Barrie/ Gormley, and Zadorov / Stuart the d men this year are much better at making the first pass out of the zone and driving possession.

What you don't like Comeau on the 1st line?

My goodness, it's like they want Duchene to play his way off the Team Canada roster.
