Schenn is a scorer and not a shutdown player was third line right wing better for him than top 6 left wing ?

Depends on who his center is to some degree, although he has not been especially productive on LW even when playing with Giroux. He seems to have better chemistry offensively with Sean Couturier, for whatever reason, But overall, Schenn has absolutely looked better offensively at RW (albeit in a small sample size late last season and for the majority of this camp) than at LW.

His production seems to take a hit whenever he plays LW. I'd rather see him as 3C and move Laughton to the wing for the time being. I think Schenn gives you better numbers there than as a LW on any line.

Think its more of a lack of other options was my point and id rather him a top 6 role. They gave umberger and gagner extended time to prove themselves at that role. I think umberger laughton schenn would be a bit a rough shut down line.

Thanks Bill. I still see the 2nd, and 3rd forward lines as being unstable. It will be interesting to see if any chemistry develops between the players of those lines. In addition, the last D pairing is a big question mark. By default, Shultz is on the top pairing, but I don't feel comfortable with giving him too many minutes. Thus, if the minutes on D are spread around, the third pairing could become a real sore point.
Let the season begin....

Vinny, a healthy scratch going into the season? Glad to see that. Maybe he'll be more willing to be traded anywhere if he isn't going to get to play in Philly. One can only hope.

If i remember right two of the knocks on schenn at center was his face offs he wasnt good and his back checking. Imoortant parts of hasktol system. But offensively he was always good center and rw

After his first offseason, he was choosy about where he would/wouldn't go. However, there were near-deals with Nashville and Florida that did not come to fruition for different reasons.

This past summer, he was likely much more open about a trade pretty much anywhere he could play and get a fresh start. However, there were no apparently interested takers even after his $2M signing bonus installment was paid by the Flyers.

Thanks Bill for the insight. I've haven't been paying as much attention this off-season.

Could Read be a sweetner in a deal? It would be a shame to move him simply to gain cap space and/or a roster spot. What, if anything, do you think the Flyers would do with the freed up dollars?

Schenn is a career 42% face off guy. Coots bellemare laughton are 48% guys. Giroux 52%.

Someone said it before, looking at those healthy scratches the Flyers are essentially icing a team with a cap of 50mil, vs other teams with what 69miil? Ah Holmgren, the gift that keeps on giving.

I encourage people to watch the last preseason game against NJ on YouTube. The Medvedev-Gudas and MDZ-Manning pairings got dominated all night long. The Tampa forwards will be licking their chops.

I have to think Hextall has a trade lined up to relieve this log jam.

Either that, or a veteran is going to start in Lehigh Valley, I think. Because, I think Scott Laughton has played his way onto this team.

Sorry to be ignant (the ignorant way to say ignorant) but why not just waive White or VDV? Sure Porter got claimed but do one of those two players really make or break the season or the prospect pool? I would much rather lose one then L. Schenn for example. We have Cousins, Leier, etc. that could be brought up if needed.

Also, I have a hard time understanding how Manning and Gudas have outplayed AMAC. I know we give AMAC a hard time but mostly due to his salary to production. I am one of the most critical and even I would play him over those two. I am a little lost I guess.

I'm not expecting much from the flyers this season. If they found a way to unload VL and MacDonald's contracts - that would be a winning season for me. A bonus would be unloading Streit and Luke at the TDL for picks. Considering Kimmo (after a season off with the blood clot) landed us a couple 2nds I'm sure these other two will bring in a decent haul. I suspect that the following 2016-17 season will have us watching the growing pains of Morin, Sanheim, Provorov, and Ghost on D... and I look forward to it.

Our bottom 6 is rough. Even if you insert amac or schenn into those combinations its not better. Our defense stinks and it has for a while.
