I personally think Nelson should be on 2nd line and Bailey should sit and Petrov should play with the Russian line.

Bernier was unimpressive in season game I saw.

I agree with you on that nelson should be on the second line and sit bailey for petrov

im not one to bash bailey because i do think he is an okay third liner, (just as long as hes not with JT im happy) but he has been a ghost this preseason.

Im not saying petrov should be a lock just because he has two goals. But it seems as though he wants it more than bailey and is really pushing to make the team.

Yup. The second line, if the above is what they go with, is not a secondary scoring line; putting Nelson there makes it more of one. Plus, we saw Nelson, Grabovski and Kulemin for way too long last season...right about the time when Nelson's productivity fell off a cliff and it was clear to anyone watching that the chemistry wasn't there. I don't see much point in going down that road again.

as much as i want pulock in the lineup i can't see them starting a rookie that is a right handed shot on the left side to make his nhl debut. i guess zidlicky could move over and play the left side, but if i was a betting man i would expect number 37 (number one in your heart) to be in the opening day lineup

Sure, but "isn't that bad" shouldn't translate to "guaranteed roster spot no matter what." In the top-six, no less. I say give it to the hungry player who came to camp with something to prove and delivered. Maybe having to work his way back into the lineup lights a fire under Bailey, who, frankly, couldn't look less interested so far. He's too comfortable, and not for good reason.

Ah well, gotta agree there. Tamby was an unfortunate waste of speed and an awesome shot.

he's a solid third line guy who can move up to the second in a pinch. I don't hate him, and I think a lot of the disappointment is just due to his effort level and the disappearing acts we've seen for a large portion of each season.

The problem is most 3rd line guys are checkers who can contribute a bit of scoring, but Bailey doesn't play that role well at all.

he's a solid third line guy who can move up to the second in a pinch. I don't hate him, and I think a lot of the disappointment is just due to his effort level and the disappearing acts we've seen for a large portion of each season.

Bailey is a talented skater. He never saw a check he couldn't avoid.

Frans was a good player on our sh*t team...but he was less than useless down the stretch and in the playoffs, because he's not strong enough. He either needs to fix that or disappear- Strome is already as good defensively as he is, and plays tougher, despite being a skinny kid.

Hickey is just small- I don't care how many people try to sell me 5'11", 190, I'm not buying it. Ovechkin threw him around like a pimp with one of his whores in that series- ditto Visnovsky. Your defensemen can't be that size and take a regular shift, not in this league. You can sneak one in if you bury him against the 4th lines, and he's worth something offensively, but the likes of him taking a regular shift against the talented beasts some of these teams sport up front is just a sorry sight.

Can we really match up with teams like the Caps again in the playoffs? Grit is still very important and this team lacks it big time. The Isles dynasty teams took off when they learned to not take shat and could play the rough and tumble game with anyone.

I think it depends on who you're playing. If you're playing a speedy finesse team, then smaller, quicker puck-movers could be more valuable than a plodding physical player. If you're playing against a punishing team that chips it in and bangs, I think you need to have big bodies back there that can take the punishment, dish it back, and take care of the front of the net.

Probably not a popular opinion, but I'd honestly rather go with Mayfield as an extra D this season for that reason. I wouldn't think of playing him against a team like Tampa Bay, where they would completely expose his less-than-stellar skating, but he looked right at home against Washington in the playoffs, and again seemed to have a really good game last night against them. Against those big, physical teams, I think he's more of an asset than Hickey or Strait, even with his limitations..
