bill,

is Philippe Myers someone the flyers had on their radar at the draft, but passed for whatever reason?

Excellent write up. Is Medvedev solid enough defensively to warrant a top pairing? Or is it still Shultz and Streit?

Yes, he was under consideration from mid-rounds onward and just happened to fall through the cracks as sometimes happens. This essentially works out like they got an extra draftee but they had to use an ELC to do it (the only negative because it is a speculative signing to project him being someone they would have signed anyway a year or two from now). He had a good camp. A 6-5 kid who can skate has a short at playing pro. Won't be a fast-tracker but that is fine.

Right now, I don't think it is wise to put him in the toughest matchups. But yes he is solid in his own end, and might warrant tough minutes as he gets settled in and shows consistency.

Wasn't overly impressed with schenn or gagner despite their goals.

Konecny looks like a steal. He and provorov are the only two I see having a shot to make it out of camp, not counting Laughton. Not sure they will, but if anyone has a shot it's those two.

Love medvedev so far. Another steal. Need to see him against top talent but he looks really smooth in every area so far.

Sanheim was disappointing. I agree with bills assessment that he's afraid to make a mistake. He also grabbed guys a few times that I though could have been called but he got away with it.

I've been saying it since the draft; Provorov and Konecny both have a shot at making the team. Provorov and Medvedev looks like a pairing that should stick together. They're a perfect for for Haxtol's part of his system of the defensemen moving the puck up the ice with aplomb. Provorov can be taught what he needs to work on but you can't teach the it factor that he brings. He needs to make the team. Konecny reminds me of a more physical Briere. He's in better shape than almost everybody out there and the way he never stops moving reminds me of Mark Recchi. He's a blend of Briere and Recchi in my opinion. His work ethic, love for the game and the way he prepares off the ice will make him an NHLer for a long time. I think he's further ahead than Justin Williams and Simon Gagne were at his age and they both made the team at 18 years of age.

Kind of a cool story for Mat Bodie.

Went to high school with the guy, born same year.

Owned my ass in every floor-hockey game in gym class too. (was goalie)

My thoughts on Provorov and Konecny are very similar. Both are fun to watch but they both are making 18 year old mistakes. Send email back for next year, let them dominate and bring email up next year.

I would start him in the AHL since they can call him up whenever.

+1, I also think if he is NHL ready by mid/late season it could open up an opportunity to trade a player like Streit or MDZ.

The excitement over the rookies is great but lets keep it all in perspective. 18, the team isn't considered a strong S.C. contender, it's preseason. Let them simmer and bring them along next year or the following.

Provorov and Konecny don't look that far away, but they're both likely going back to juniors. Gostisbehere's offensive game is NHL caliber, but he likely needs some AHL time to round his all around game into shape. Sanheim looks like the biggest project. He just didn't look confident.

Konecny has been remarkable. From his hockey senses to his speed. He's just been all over the puck and that pass for the assist on Ghost's first goal was great. (So was that ripper Ghost had from his knee). I was also impressed with McDonald's speed and play in last nights game.
