Don't forget his 2 'minor' heart surgeries.

The Bruins are wasting their time with the Monster.

There were much better, reliable, established back-ups who could have signed for short money. Budaj & Emery to name a few.

Smith's play last year should give him the inside track I would think. Somebody who Julien trusts is key, Rask doesn't need to be ridden into the dirt this year.

I guess I just really don't care who the backup is this year.
What a boring and uninspiring off season.

Really?!?!? Is that a sarcastic statement? Because I think this has been anything but a boring off season... We got a new gm, traded some big pieces, had 3 picks in the 1st round, signed the most sought after FA of the year, and brought in a couple of other players. What would classify as an entertaining offseason?

Smith is a lock in my mind... with that contract and those AHL stats last year.. I think it's a done deal. I think they want Subban playing as much as he can, so he'll probably be the starter in Providence, but McIntyre is a bit of a wildcard. He's supposed to be real good, but I think he'll start as the back up in Providence. Not a bad thing having a bit of a log jam at goalie. That being said, I don't think Subban is ever going to play for the B's... Tuukka is clearly the man for now, and the foreseeable future.. so I see Subban getting moved at some point.

Well I think it's known around the league that the Bruins have been shaving milimeters off the puck surface for years, shortening the puck and making it easier to slide under goaltenders pads

I have seen McIntyre play the last couple years at UND. He is good no doubt, but my guess is he will need more seasoning. Splitting time with Subban in the AHL this year (maybe 5/8 Subban, 3/8 McIntyre) would be the smart choice. Let smith have the go and show the Monster the door because we really dont need that poop.

There is always room for someone to surprise out of camp, but based on what we know Smith is the best choice. Next year will be more interesting in terms of who backs up rask, and who sees AHL time. If Smith is a back up this year, he might get the boot next year if one of the two Providence tenders shows they are ready to make the leap.

That seems to be the theme here... a constant revolving door for the backup goalie. I guess that'll happen when you have $7mil tied up by your #1. We'll take whosever cheapest please!

So.....Franson is going to sign for two years with Buffalo for around $3.3 mill per.

That's $550k more than the more reliable never injured Quaider..... (Sarcasm)

That's a manageable cap hit, but if they weren't willing to put that money down on Franson, then it tells me they're confident in the young guys, and want that cap space open to make a move later on. I can live with that... I just hope they're right about the young guys!

To me it makes more sense to go into the season with what we've got now... get some games under their belt and figure out what they've got and where they could use help, and then use that money in the middle of the season to add someone to fill that gap. Haters gunna hate, but I've got my fingers crossed for Big Buf

Optimistic view: if they're that good in bad shape, imagine em after whitesides gets a hold of them!

But seriously, don't think this means anything. Bennet couldn't do pull ups, RNH couldn't bench press. I bet Pasta didn't amaze in fitness testing.
