As far as anyone knows, does not starting the season with Kane involve cap relief for the Hawks?

not unless they suspend him similar like how the Kings got relief with Voynov.

So Patrick Kane will not be traded at all, or he wont be traded for now?

Keep it coming JJ

I sure hope there is a taker for Bickell for a somewhat reasonable return

Good information Joh. However, I cringe when I look at the bottom pairings on defense. I hope this Gustafson kid is competent and has some game, because it's obvious Runblad doesn't, despite his defenders. If this club has a major injury to any of their top three on defense, the Hawks are in deep trouble.

Not sold on Pokka. But if he is the "real deal" and Gustafson becomes a pleasant surprise, things may shake out. Wonder if Rozy is on Stan's speed dial?

Going to be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

Team suspended him as well

But the fact doesn't change, if he is suspended, cap relief, if not then cap remains

I'll be honest I don't know how the hawks don't trade both Bickell and Versteeg. Don't they want to free up a spot for Hartman or Mcneill to Finally get a shot at the NHL? we are so stacked at forward its hard to imagine us keeping both of them

Bickell has a Modified NTC, and I am not sure about Versteeg but there was a rumour he nixed a deal to Montreal near the draft so he still must have one as well

The team wants to do the right thing by Kane—assuming he wants to do the right thing for himself and his career going forward:

“A lot has been discussed by the Hawks’ front office about Kane, but they want to keep Patrick Kane, they do not want to ‘punish’ his actions by trading him, they want to give him the time needed to ‘get his act together’ and remain a Hawk.”

Sounds to like potentially LTIR, referral for evaluation under the NHL/NHLPA Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program.

that 2nd suspension was just more kings black magic for cap relief. Harding was suspending by the Wild for a non-hockey injury as well and didn't receive any cap relief.

Hey Texas...

I think Rosy comes on at some point once the cap is sorted here in regard to Kane's situation...

Meanwhile I mentioned this earlier in the summer and ER had him in his latest mock line up. I'd love to see the Hawks bring Soupy back at the TDL...that would make Daley your #5. TVR your #6

yeah thats right. remember the kings got fined 100 k for letting voynov skate with the team. i think it wasnt as much support for him as much as it was a message to the league office suspend him or release him but make a decision so they could get cap space to replace him. just my opinion

The Blackhawk's situation remains uncertain and fluid...what a mess.

Q and Co. face a huge challenge this year, and I have no clue how this season will transpire.

Could be interesting and entertaining with another trip to the playoffs...

...or it could be disastrous.

Things will start taking shape in late September.

that would seem to be the only way they'd be guaranteed to know kane wouldn't be starting the season with them. If he's cleared of the charges, he'd show up for camp and they'd continue to be in cap hell, but if they've decided to send him to rehab if he's not charged, then they should get some cap relief.

what an ugly situation though. I feel for you guys - you should have been celebrating the cup win and looking forward to defending it this season, but instead this ugly scene is hovering over the franchise and the fans.

So if Kane wins his legal battle then the Hawks will keep him around attempting to buy time away from the event to increase his value before trading him is what I read.

VERY interesting news about trading Bickell or Versteeg but NOT both. Being a bit of a cap geek myself (ha), I have a spreadsheet, and trading one but NOT both means:

1) Marcus Kruger's salary can be $1,692,788 dollars this year for the Hawks to break even if they trade ONLY Versteeg AND Kane's money can't be buried in LTIR.

2) Kruger's salary can be around $2.5M if they trade ONLY Versteeg, bury Kane's money until he returns at some point in the season, and make a call-up of Baun or Nordstrom while Kane is in rehab.

Here's a BIG question: Would Kruger accept just under $1.7M if his previous salary was $1.35M? That still beats the require 10-15% raise for an RFA, but yikes… I would have projected him at $2.2 - $2.5M. Perhaps this is the case, meaning that the league and the Blackhawks know Kane will be suspended and gain some LTIR from his suspension.

Lines:
Dano-Toews-Hossa
Panarin-Anisimov-Teravainen
Baun-Tikhonov-Garbutt
Desjardins-Kruger-Shaw
Bickell (still scratched - the bum!)

Keith-Seabrook
Daley-Hjalmarsson
Gustaffson-Van Reimsdyk
Rundblad

Crawford
Darling

Big questions about the roster throughout… Especially that 3rd line and the 3rd D pairing. We'll see!

I could live with that as well DK, but you have to wonder if Florida will be sellers at the trade dead line. They are an up and coming team, and if there are no budgetary restraints, Uncle Dale could very well be a buyer.
