Ok look up the last goalie to win the cup that was traded for and not drafted. Good luck winning a cup. - jake24242
Not drafting Martin Jones doesn't bother me one iota if he plays well. |

Wasn't drafted by them, signed as a Free Agent. Now you are just splitting hairs.
But before that, Khabibulin and Roy both were traded for and won Cups w/ their new teams. |

Well it is different basically Thomas was drafted since he never played in the nhl before. But I see what you are trying to say also. And look how long ago Roy was and Bullin |

2015 Blackhawks - Crawford (draft pick)
2014 Kings - Quick (draft pick)
2013 Blackhawks - Crawford (draft pick)
2012 Kings - Quick (draft pick)
2011 Bruins - Thomas (undrafted signing)
2010 Blackhawks - Niemi (undrafted signing)
2009 Penguins - Fluery (draft pick)
2008 Redwings - Osgood (draft pick)
2007 Ducks - Giguere (Trade)
Its been a bit unfair to say that since the last 6 years have been dominated by 2 teams with their dynasty like teams. But its not that rare that you win a cup with a goalie that isn't a drafted developed player

They are riding the downside of their time...aging core that hasn;t been able to pull it out in the playoffs.
If they can make the playoffs I'd be surprised, and a 7/8 seed if they do. Another 2 years and its time for a full-scale rebuild. |

Tim Chiasson: Why The San Jose Sharks Will Win The Stanley Cup
Who dat say day gon' beat dem Sharks? - Tim Chiasson
Let's me make a couple of corrections to Tim's writeup
1. Last year Couture’s line was ugly as a shutdown group, and that was because it is tough to be a shutdown line when your includes one of the worst defensive players in the NHL Patrick Marleau. The problem for Logan's line was that they were handicapped most of the time having to play 4 on 5 on defense.
2. John Scott, who had his best offensive season (goal scoring ever), played less then half of the teams games and averaged less time on ice then any other bottom 6 player by a wide margin. The problem on the bottom six, wasn't Scott, it was the play of many other players. However with that being said, the Sharks bottom six line last year, outscored the teams bottom six line from the prior two seasons.
Tim more goals last season? SJ's bottom 6 or Tampa Bays? More goals SJ's bottom 6 or LA Kings, Anaheim Ducks? |

They can never go deep in the playoffs and only getting older won't help. And now they have DeBoer coaching them, one of the worst at motivating his team I've ever seen. He can't motivate and he makes the wrong changes. Benches young guys for mistakes. Then gives extra playing time to veterans who make worse mistakes. No cup for them. All you said was if, if, if, if, if. |

Right so if the
2015 Lightning - Bishop (trade)
2013 Bruins - Rask (trade)
2011 Canucks - Luongo (trade)
They would have all been cup champs if they had a goalie they drafted and developed themselves.
No point trading for goalies, never get a shot at the cup with them |

I personally would put point 1 to be - will the coach & his system fit the team?
Point 2 would be - will the Hayne Plane get a contract with the 49ers????
Seriously - point 1 is a must.
Edit: or is point 1 in the next post as to why you can't win Stanley? |
