Even with how much they sucked ass last year, I am starting to miss hockey.

One of the main reasons I want them to turn Schenn into a draft pick. There is plenty of young depth in the AHL should injuries mount. Between Marti, Ghost, Alt, Morin, and Hagg, we have plenty of prospects who could come up for cups of coffee.

Turn Luke into a 2nd rounder and call it a day. The cap space alone would help tremendously. Gudas can hopefully fill his shoes at a fraction of the cost, and is also a righty.

I just don't see any need for the Flyers to hold onto Luke Schenn. The fact that this is a contract year is all the more reason to move him; he won't be resigned. No reason to rush a move though. We're below the cap. Wait for a desperate team to come calling.

This is coming from someone who considers Luke a decent top-4 guy. He's a good player, just not needed anymore.

Do you think that any of those 5 players are ready for a full-time NHL job this season should injury mount to 1 player? I certainly wouldn't like to be that Plan A. I personally like the competition that having 7 defensemen will create, you have an extra "veteran" who could come in if a player slumps/is out on LTIR.

I see no reason to rush into a trade at this point, let the defense figure itself out at training camp and pre-season and go from there.

He was the epitome of class and never seemed to be out of position or make a mistake. They could BADLY use a dman like Howe today!

4. Kimmo Timonen
Next to Clarke, he was the hardest working guy to ever wear the orange and black. He was also one of the toughest, as he routinely played through injuries that would have put any other player on the shelf.

5. RicK Macleish
The Hawk had such a smooth stride and one of the nastiest wrist shots I ever saw. He was the ultimate big game player and always did his best work in the playoffs.

6. Tim Kerr
The most lethal weapon on the powerplay in team history. It was simply impossible to move him from the slot and the release on his snap shot was the fastest I ever witnessed.

7. Rod Brind'amour
Another guy who simply worked his tail off and played the game the right way. Glad he got a ring, just wish he could have gotten it here.

8. Dave Poulin
He's right up there with Howe in the class department and he was without a doubt the second best Captain in team history. Trading him for a washed up Ken Linseman was one of the worst deals Clarke ever made as a GM.

Another classy, smooth skating all around great dman. He was the defensive anchor of the club for nearly a decade and was another guy who rarely, if ever, seemed to make a mistake on the ice

10. Paul Holmgren
Forget for a moment his career as a GM. As a player he was all heart and effort and tough as nails too. If you thought Pronger's stare was intimidating, go back and take a look at Holmgren. He was one of the most menacing players to ever lace em up and he is probably the only reason that Ken Linseman is alive today.

My only comment was that, as hard as Clarke worked, Rod probably worked harder. In the summer, he'd go to the Coliseum every day and shoot pucks against walls on the concrete. He showed up 3 hours before games to get a run in around the concourse. No disrespect to Clarke or Kimmo, but Rod is probably the hardest working player in NHL history.

Edit: Clarke was most determined, for sure.

I have been a Flyers fan since 1968 and Clarke, Lindros and Hexy as my favorites...I did love Pelle L. and Favell also

Without Schenn, we still have 7. I have no problem with having Ghost on the roster if he's going to get a regular shift and not sit. I also think Alt is very close. He, at best, will only ever be a 3rd pairing defender. That's exactly where he'd likely play a regular shift if called upon. I have faith the other players I mentioned can at least handle a cup of coffee at the NHL level if need be.

If injuries become an issue to the point where Ghost, Alt and Marti are occupying spots 5-7 and its clear they are not ready, you can address that via trade. You're talking some serious injuries going down at this point.

We're never gonna know how good any of these kids are if they don't play. We have 7 NHL dmen without any of them on the roster, or Luke Schenn. The cap space would help this team tremendously moving forward. It may even allow them to bring in a cheap FA or two into cap with a chance of realistically signing both. There's more then a handful of decent FA's still left that are gonna have to settle for PTO's.

There shouldn't be any rush, but it's certainly an avenue that needs to be explored. I would hold him through camp, and look to trade him around the deadline. Never know, a team may be battling the injury bug, pressure may mount and you might get a 1st rounder for him.

Agree with all of this. There shouldn't be any rush to trade him, but I definitely think it's something Hextall should be seriously thinking about.

I think Gudas play's a regular shift, personally. However, on a new team with a new coach, we have no idea. He very well could be the odd man out.

The only reason I don't think there's anyway Luke Schenn is resigned is because of money. I don't think they'll be able to afford what he's going to want in a deal. They have Schultz, MDZ, and Streit each signed for two more seasons. They're thinking long term with D signings with guys like Provorov, Sanheim etc. in mind. Because of Luke's age, I don't think the Flyers will be able, or willing for that matter to match the deal he'll get on the FA market in years or $$$. Contrary to what many believe on this forum, he's a pretty good defensemen. I foresee his next deal being fairly lucrative, especially if he has a decent season.
