Comparing Kopitar to those three great players, adjusting for inflation of contracts, I estimate he will make about a gagillion dollhairs next contract.
But seriously, he is going to be paid over 10mill per

Awesome work RW.

This just helps to show that if you have grit, but can't play hockey (Adams, Lapierre, Glass to name a few) then you don't belong anywhere near an NHL rink. Glad the Penguins are transitioning out of the old school way of hockey.

Vancouver fans be like~

"Sutter is gonna be so much better without being behind 87 and 71."
"Bonino is way worse than Sutter."
"Sutter is a corner piece moving forward."
"We got the best player in the deal."

I give it 1-1.5 months tops before VAN fans are gouging their eyes out and begging us to take Sutter back.

Do I really need a chart to tell me that Crosby is the best in the world and Glass sucks?

Some NHL GM's need these chart's because they keep giving contracts to the Tanner Glass's of the world. Good job RW

As he should, Kopitar is one of the most underrated players in the league, top 5 center in the league in my opinion.

Most of the Vancouver fans I've read/spoken with don't like the trade, so not sure where you're getting this from.

As for me, I think it's a wash. I'm kind of amazed at how excited you guys are over this return. I guess you had classified anything above a bag of pucks for Sutter as win, because that's the only way I can make sense of this.

The three players in the trade are all young and are all now on their third teams. This should tell you all you need to know...

I think most of it comes down to the other move the Pens made on that day; signing Fehr. Along with Bonino it provides us with that much depth than having just Sutter (for not much more cap space), which is exactly what the Pens needs/needed when they are spending that much money on 4-5 players. Clendening is seen as someone who will/can replace Harrington, a promising prospect that we lost in the Kessel trade. He might not ever turn out to be top4 material, but the same can be said for Harrington. It's basically just taking a chance on another young guy. Along with all this, we also got to improve our draft position, probably not by a whole lot but still.

Gotta include Fehr as part of the return in our minds, because we don't sign him without this trade. With Fehr being LTIR as well to start the season, we can technically not even count Bonino's cap hit this season.

And the improved draft pick, and a good D prospect... I think we would have still been happy with this trade as just Bonino for Sutter straight up.

When you're team has been employing the likes of Craig Adams, Max Lapierre, Zach Sill, Brandon Sutter, and a bunch of other dumpster fires... it's very easy to get excited, especially if you're a fan of analytics, it makes it even easier to get excited when you see what Bonino and Fehr bring to the table.

I would have been happy with the 3rd round pick for Sutter, who also happens to be relatively young and on his 3rd team too BTW.

@Dupuis

Wonder why Rust doesn't go back to 21. No one has that number... Anyways, good to see Perron back in his usual digs. Love how the Kessel 81 just went without saying

Charts and graphs don't win hockey games. It is good to know Crosby is better than Glass though. Wasn't sure on that one.

Maybe its because Toews has won three cups for his team? Wild guess.

Also has had a much more healthier, and better team. This year could be the first year in 6 years our fanbase is going to be confident in our whole lineup (except Scuderi... ).

Probably because CHI has had a better team by using charts and graphs instead of eye-tests.

Wouldn't say Toews alone won 3 cups for the blackhawks.. he had tons of help on every run.
