why offer if you know it's low? that's why you pay no mind to portzline. he is a complete idiot and they tell him squat about what their doing. when a trade breaks or anything of importance the dude is always last at the table.my best advice would be to you don't listen to anything he says. and yes the dispatch does have a stake in the team so he does get to ask alot of questions at the interviews and such but that is about all he gets.dude doesn't have a clue about hockey or the team.

You make the offer because there is mutual interest. Ehrhoff could decided to just take the offer and be done with waiting. |

Also should be noted he will be paid around 12 million over the next 14 years from Buffalo buyout |

or it could backfire knowing what market value is for him. guy has interest in the team so you let his agent know that it is mutual and say before you sign with another team lets talk.you don't low ball the guy and i'm sure columbus probably took a different road opposed to what portzline is writing that is all i'm saying. columbus is a 1st class organization ya know. |

I agree with you there. I imagine they talked to each other found out they both had interest and Jarmo said with out current cap situation this is the best we can offer.

Ehrhoff signing in CLB would be very bad news indeed. Frankly I thought that Hoff would displace Letang as the #1 by mid-season but he never really had a consecutive streak of meaningful hockey in Pittsburgh.
Certainly I don't like the prospects of trying to contain the Jackets' 8 power forwards. Getting the puck to them all nice and flat and on the tape from Hoff would really create an imbalance in a playoff series. I hope Carolina comes through with an inflated rate contract. |

IMHO, I'd much rather have a healthy Erhoff than Franson. I love the guy and feel he would be a huge addition to Columbus. |

You make the offer because it's the best you can give at the time and if you're honest with the guy, where is the harm? Especially if the market for him is a lot cooler than he expected. He knows you have interest in him, but that's all you can do and if he decides that the mutual interest matters more than perhaps a slightly better deal money wise, he might take it.
If somehow CBJ could sign him, it'd be a massive piece to the puzzle. To be completely honest, right now i'm wishing we had let Calvert go so we could lock up a dman like this . I like Calvert, but he got a very generous contract and that money could probably be better spent on a defensive upgrade than a guy who could possibly be playing 3rd/4th line minutes. |

I feel the same way about the Pens. He's possibly the piece that they're missing now. I'm glad we moved Sutter, but that Scuderi contract is a killer. If we would have bought him out there was room to retain Ehroff. Whoever gets him is going to get a great bargain. And, even though Columbus is a rival, I wouldn't mind seeing him play there. |

dude isnt that good, only had a handful of games last year where he looked like a top 4 D man I thought, has a great shot that he rarely uses, isnt very big and doesnt really hit. good at moving the puck usually, but overall dude was average last year. oh yea and he gets hurt quite often. so yea hopefully we see him in a blue jackets uniform! |

Excellent insight. I'll assuming you're one of the Pens fans who blamed the early playoff exit last year on not having healthy dmen only to now think he isn't that good. |

Yeah, definitely. He's a solid guy to add to your back line and it looks like he'll be signed for very reasonable wherever he lands. |
