With a modest 2.2 cap hit - why has versteeg not been moved as of yet for a mid round draft pick
Yesterday we saw Matthias and Hayes receive 2.3m per year

Does versteeg also have a Ntc?

JJ, what have you heard about Montreal in all of this? it's been speculated here for months that Bergevin would make a push for Sharp in the offseason but rumour-wise it's been very quiet here, and MB's trademark so far has been acquiring talent on the cheap, not at the rumoured asking price for Sharp.

i would imagine they're waiting for the Sharp shoe to drop. could be that once Sharp is dealt, interest in Versteeg goes up.

Sharp has to provide a 10 team list of where he would like to be traded within 48 hours of being asked by the team

I don't believe he has a NMC, but Stan does hand them out like candy.

No idea why Versteeg hasn't been deal. Certainly have seen worse players get equal money.

10 teams. Should be able to make a deal with one of them. Just do it. Is Sharp being a wiener and complicating the process?

Perhaps bowman is going to teams that aren't on the list

well it sounds like it because JJ was talking about him having to waive. and if he prefers a winning team up north, looking more at teams like NYR, NYI, Washington, maybe Boston, Montreal, Pittsburgh. not sure about cap space for a lot of those teams...

You'd think a bit...but hey he's got control and going to use it...can't blame him for that. Don't know what that does for Sharpie's chances coming back and playing a season or two and retiring here at the end of his career.

Can't really blame mgt. in Fla if they're a little gun shy after the Bolland signing...especially if Sharp isn't buying in to what they're selling.

Meantime the price continues to drop...

I'm getting more of a feel Stan is going to (frank) this up big time. Seems like each hour, we're getting closer to waiving bye-bye to Kruger and Oduya.

If Versteeg has a NMC or NTC, it wouldn't have anything to do with Stan Bowman. Versteeg is currently playing under a contract signed in Florida by Dale Tallon.

Uncle Dale signed him to the contract when he signed in Florida plus generalfanager doesn't list one.

Every team hands them out like Candy

Patrik Berglund has a limited NMC

A few things:

1. Stan is getting offers, not just making them and has a duty (to the team) to listen to and consider all of them. This is no different than a corporation considering acquisition or divestiture of an asset

2. Sharp bargained for his NTC, theoretically (likely) taking less money in exchange for the NTC. So he is entitled to use it. That (lower $$ in salary) is also (likely) why there are A number of NTC/NMC clauses on the Hawks with them hard pressed against the top of the cap and in win now mode.

3. Deals change and morph over time as the parties needs/wants and relative bargaining positions change over time. What is unacceptable previously may become so.

4. In this case it takes 3 to tango - and that's messy, complicated, difficult and not figured out quickly or without stepping on some toes and shifting positions.

All of the above and more is factoring into what we are seeing ( or more precisely not seeing) here. Hard to be patient.

Having done some deals in a non sports context this is what I'm seeing. Much as we may not like to see the business in sports - it's there and driving things.

On the other hand, if Oduya and Kruger are going to be signed at some point we are quite literally getting closer by the hour to that happening.

Kruger would be a tough loss

Oduya might hurt but he is getting a bit long in the tooth not sure how much longer he would be productive

He certainly wont without Hammer next to him

It's his right. He doesn't need to care about if it is a good hockey trade or not.
