Rutherford has probably has gone to bed every night this week dreaming of Crosby feeding Kessel, on and off the ice.

Kessel with Malkin or Crosby would be amazing. Cap wise its doable. It all depends on whether Pitt wants a legit consistent scorer for as long as they have Malkin or Crosby.

Everyone remembers Kessel and how he looked with Savard feeding him in Bsonton.

*PITT fans start salivating*

on a pure wins - and - losses standpoint, yeah Frolik is probably the better option.

But for entertainment value, i do still wanna see Sid/Geno with Kessel

they could, actually. They'd just have to salary dump / buy out some other dudes.

Or move a big contract like letang.

Also remember, they're replacing 9 million worth of Paul Martin and Christian Ehrhoff with cheap young guys.

Frolik is gonna be highly sought after.... could see a bidding war happening

Would be a smart acquisition thou, Pitt can't throw away any assets anymore

Meanwhile, Eric Fehr gave his notice, he isn't returning to the Caps, he would look great on the Pens.... salary expectations are probably on the high side.

If I'm moving Pouliot, Maatta is off the table, I'd want a young scoring forward coming back. Not a guy making 8mil.

Crosby or Malkin would look great with any of the top wingers in the game....The only time 87 had that was a brief sting with Hossa but they have been bumping up mid tier guys pretty. It will never happen, just can't afford the roster or the price to acquire anyone like that.

Nobody is saying Kessel sucks, it just doesn't make sense.

Frolik someone like that is a better option for the Pens. $5mil is the max I would pay though and IDK if that is even good.

Yeah I agree, and I dont think Maata can even be on the table. There are high expectations for DP but he has a ways to go before he can take that top pairing spot.

Frolik is a nice player but I have no interest in him at $5M per season. 4/$16M is the most it would make sense to pay him.

Pouliot or Maatta would almost certainly have to be moved for other young studs for a trade to be fair.

However, if Toronto (or whatever team) also takes the bloated contracts of Scuderi and Sutter, it *might* be worth it. The net exchange would essentially make a Kessel a $1 million player this year, a $4 million player next year, and then continue being $8 million for the rest of his contract.

Maatta might be worth two super cheap years of Kessel in that case. After all Maatta is about to get expensive himself next year.

But if we're talking one of those dmen, a 1st rounder, Sutter, and Scuderi, then i'm probably not a fan. but if it's just Maatta, sutter, and scuderi, then it might be something to consider.

Toronto is in a full blown rebuild. Kessel is going to bring back a first in either this draft or next years. No way you can trade him in the position they are in without bringing back a first round pick.

All smoke in mirrors. What does Damian Cox know.

The only two teams that are equipped to compensate the Leafs AND take on that huge contract are Montreal and maybe the Isles. With some fancy cap maneuvering and some trade the Wild would be a good fit as well.

Pittsburgh doesn't need a winger to drive possession they need a winger that can score. Frolik can't do that at the same level as Kessel, he's nowhere close to the goal scorer Kessel is. Gretzky had Kuri and it's time that the Pens finally got Crosby the sniper he needs.

I want nothing to do with another player on this team making that kind of money. I think after those couple of years, we'd absolutely despise that contract.

The assets the Pens would have to give up would really hurt in a couple years.
