No to both from me. Pens need health above all else. They were clipping up until December last season. Best win % in league. Then the poop hit the injury fan. |

No, no, and no.
Need to replace the old, overpaid contracts with young talent on ELC's/bridge deals.
If CHI gets this ransom... give them the cup for next year too.
Surely no teams GM would be dumb enough to give.... oh poop |

No thanks on Sharp or Kessel. Acquisition price is too much and both have cap hits that will crush the team. Sharp is too old at this point and I'd rather have Kunitz on his contract than Sharp on his contract. |
|
|
|
No on Sharp... I think its almost laughable hes being linked to here.
Kessel I would still consider... I heard Toronto isn't against keeping up to 2 mil a year. That I find beyond unlikely, but if we could get even 1 mil a year kept, I'd see how much of a King's Ransom they want for him. |

Neither are worth discussing. Pens dont have/can't use the assets needed to acquire either of them. |

Even if Toront would be willing to retain 2M on his salary, what would they be asking?
Pouliot/Maatta + first + Nice prospect + ???
We just don't have the assets. |

Pretty much... might throw in Kunitz as the kicker.
I went with the other top prospect of ours in
Kap+Harrington+2016 1st and 2016 3rd. |

That's just a whacko asking price on Sharp. A guy with a 5.9mill cap hit that played on the 3rd & 4th lines in March during the playoff race & games mattered. Good luck Chicago. |

This is a no. We don't have a first this year and don't need to be trading a first for next year already since we have already traded our second. Nice prospect? That would be Kapanen. That would be a no as well. You are giving up the farm and all our young talent for him. It makes little sense trading away that type of ransom for Kessel. We are already short on young players and or prospects/picks already and that is a serious problem. Kessel at 6 million, along with the other high end contracts probably would put 53% of the cap invested on six players. |

I think both of them would carry too high a price to be worth it. Pitt would probably be better off with a mid-tier winger like Lupul.
Not saying Lupul himself, as he's rarely healthy, but someone at his level. |

I think your deal is better than mine looking from our perspective. Maatta is proven and Pouliot is almost a certain thing. Kapanen may not live to the expectations, I don't think Toronto would trade Kessel for a question mark.
If Toronto liked that deal I would take it I guess. |

I brought that up yesterday. Maybe all of us, including me are foolish our our rational returns of Kunitz. A second round pick is his value to me. Sharp and Kunitz had essentially the same year, drastic drop offs in numbers. While Kunitz is two years older, he is 2.05 million cheaper (something like that). If that is the going rate for Sharp, we should be asking the same for Kunitz. That isn't rational to believe he is worth that and the same with Sharp being worth what Chicago is reportedly asking for. |

Yeah, agreed. I would never do that deal, I'm just guessing what would Toronto want from us for Kessel and it's definetely not worth it. |

Its a better for us than yours, it plays to keeping the young D when we are short there.
Kunitz is the winger they can use for the time being, Kap for the future... two picks for them to do with whatever they want, and another top talent possible prospect in Harrington.
Personally, I don't know if I'd even pull the trigger on my own deal with money being kept on Kessel. I can justify giving away Kap... we wanted him to become a top 6 winger, Kessel is already that and we'd have him for a long time.
But jeez, that is giving away the farm... |

Toronto will not retain salary rather they are open in taking back a hefty contract that is less in money and term than Kessel. |

I have proposed this before but havent received a lot of feedback.
What about Kessel and some retained cash for Letang?
Similar age, and locked up until same season.
Kessel is a little overpaid, but they are similarly talented players.
I'd say that since they are similarly talented, then saying "hey, toronto. it'd be fair for you to retain at least 0.75 so that the salaries cancel since Kessel is currently overpaid and letang isn't."
It doesn't really help Toronto's rebuild since it's just exchanging star for star instead of exchanging a star for lots of youth and risk. but maybe toronto would rather invest in speed on defense.
