Todd Cordell: Report: Kerby Rychel Drawing A Lot Of Interest
- Todd-Cordell

So he's in demand and yet Canadian fans (in your previous blogg) devalued him to the point that he's only worth Tinordi and not Beaulieu you is a so called top 4 defensman ....interesting .

Being in demand doesn't mean that he'll fetch a huge return - he's still a young, fairly unproven commodity.

I'm sure if Montreal made Tinordi available there would be quite a few teams interested as well.

I wouldn't trade Bealieu straight up for Rychel at this point - you have a pretty good idea what you have in Bealieu whereas Rychel is a much bigger question mark.

Would the Blue Jackets be interested in say Bieksa, Hamhuis, or Edler if they waived in Vancouver?

Some Av Bloggers were wondering if the Avs are interesting in him now since MacFarland jumped ship. To a lesser extent, could they be in on Reilly now too?

Dont think the have the pieces to get him, (wont move Bigras and Siemens, Ellliott are not even close). But it was an interesting thought.

I can see a handful of defenseman Jamro is eyeing.

I don't expect anything done anytime soon on Rychel. Jarmo is going to take his time and find the appropriate deal.

Who knows. I've heard that Babcock has said he wants a clean slate, meaning Kessel, Dion, Bozak, Lupul are all likely gone.

I just fail to see what makes Beaulieu a top 4 defensman . I can say the same that it's only one full season (if we can call it that) backstopped by one of the best goalies in the league for Beaulieu, and also it helps playing behind Markov and Subban.

For sure - but if you look a little deeper - past his goals and assists - you'll see he has solid possession numbers relative to the team for a 21 year old. He also generates more scoring chances then average on the habs.

Amazing skater, good first pass, and good instincts, and with a 2% shooting percentage his numbers should go up.

If I were Hextall I would reach out to Jarko. The Flyers have plenty of veteran d-men available for trade that could play in their top 4. Not sure what the deal would entail but a call doesnt hurt.

What are you talking about? Flyers have plenty of Dmen that teams would like.

Grossman is a good shutdown Dman, his puck handling is not the strongest but he blocks shots, defends well and is strong against the boards.

Streit was top 10 in points and plays well enough defensively

Luke Schenn apparently is valuable because he is right handed. He is a decent defender but is often criticized due to not living up to what he was traded for. He could be a #4 guy

Andrew MacDonald is overpaid but he is a solid defender. He could be dealt if 1-2 mill was retained.

All these guys a good dmen the problem is Philly doesn't have any top 2 guys and you have 8 guys who are top 4 or top 6. You can't make up the loss of Pronger with Top 4 Dmen. That is something Holmgren did not understand.

Philly has tons of D, both playing in the NHL and as prospects. Streit would be the only guy I'd call a top D man though, although Sanheim, Morin and Ghost all look like they are going to be very good.

I'm not sure why you would trade Rychel for D help unless the return is really pretty good. When you're already running high on roster players, why trade a prospect (who likely won't play lots of NHL minutes next season) for somebody who in theory would? Unless you're packaging another forward or defenseman in return as well, in which case the return would HAVE to be pretty good.

To be honest, either way I'd wait and see what happens in the draft and Free Agency. I think we're better off signing a depth player via FA and holding on to the prospects for trade bait later or development.

A name that caught my eye on the UFA list is Matt Bartkowski from Boston. Was playing third pairing minutes for Boston and was a very affordable 1.25 mil/yr last season. I know he's had some struggles with Boston, but the 26 year old definitely has ability and I think with the right fit he'd have a number of strong years. .......the reason he caught my eye, is because he played 2 years for OSU. I'm not saying every OSU player should play for CBJ, but if you're trying to attract a UFA who could add some depth, I would have to think he'd fit pretty well. Nowhere near the best we could do, but he wouldn't break the bank and he's not Dalton Prout
