Bob Duff: Leafs offer too good for Babcock to refuse
Wings wouldn't match money or term offered by Toronto in order to keep their coach. - BobDuff
“I don’t even know if there’s three or four players in the league who make that kind of money.”
I hope this statement was taken out of context or holland should be immediately fired.
Stupid is who they are. It’s what they do.
You should probably reconsider this statement.
What the leafs did was completely disruptive, particularly to budget teams. If the leafs (and other wealthy teams) can drive dollars away from players salaries to other areas of the business, it becomes an additional competitive advantage over budget teams.
Really, they should be looking to drive up costs across all areas of hockey operations. |

Why is it embarrassing? I bet they make the playoffs within 2-3 years. |

Agreed. And it seems like he'll have plenty of input to build the team that he wants. As far as family goes, there are many beautiful areas in and around Toronto where they'll be able to live an awesome, comfortable life... and of course have some money to soften the blow.
To put it another way, Jeff Finger + David Clarkson = $51.75m... as far as usage of money goes, it'd be a foolish person to suggest that this is not $50m better spent. |

It would confer benefit to them but I hope the league makes an effort to mitigate it. They already benefited from taking on dead money with the Clarkson trade.

They really only had top beat out the Sabres - Canada Cup
I get this feeling He never intended to sign in Buffalo, Murray got burned. Good for the leafs. Does this accelerate the rebuild or are they gonna still blow it up? Wouldn't you still want to blow it up, it seems there is still a lot of real talent issues? |

"Yes it’s stupid money, and stupid term for that matter, but it’s the Leafs after all.
Stupid is who they are. It’s what they do"
Show some class man, it's bad enough having so many leaf haters here bashing the team and it's fan base every chance they get but having the bloggers chime in with comments like that is just sad. I would think you should be held to a higher standard than the trolls.

The Leafs are finally rebuilding...No more quick fixes.
They have a lot of good young talent. They have tradeable assets they have high end picks. They also have two of the smartest minds in junior hockey as co GMS
They are going to be a force in a few years. Det and their dinosaurs are over the hill |

can't be serious...Eichel all day.i'd give babs and the 4th for eichel. but i'm still really happy with the Babcock deal. we'll still be crap for 3-5 years but a system will be ingrained here and hopefully it carries on for years |

I dont think Wings fans are very surprised that he is not back.
I do think he had a real hard time leaving because he knows they do things right, but he is convinced the Leafs will eventually, at some point be focused on rebuilding properly. They are certainly talking the talk as such.
As for the Sabres, I believe they were a legit contender to land him, but Leafs appealed more to Babcock's ego in my estimation.
I am more focused on the Wings moving forward with a new voice -- I would assume that the buy in will be there with Blashill in tow as he knows the vets and has basically made the upcoming group what they are. |
