The future looks very bright for the Oilers!
As a Leaf fan since 1962, I was thrilled to see Connor go to the Oilers rather than Arizona or Buffalo.
It was just sick when those two so deliberately lost to get better odds at Mc David.
The Oilers being a young team but weakened further because of injuries were trying to win gains so its justice for them to win over the other two.
Of course I would have loved to see him in the blue and white but him going to Edmonton is just fine by me.
I hate it when I hear the Arizona and Buffalo fans whine they got ripped off- they got what they deserved especially Buffalo's GM lol

Nurse played a great series, just not sure he is NHL ready. Maybe start in the minors and see how he handles men and not juniors. Should be a solid player going forward.

I personally look forward to seeing both of them play. Whether that is next year with Nurse or 2 years from now. I think it will depend on Nurse out shining the other defenders in the preseason.
Now the question I have for the Oiler fans is once you have McDavid who do you protect him with. Because the west is going to be rough. He may be fast and able to dangle in a phone booth (what are those right?!) but players like Kesler and Backes and bieksa love taking liberties behind the play on players like that.
With Chiarell involved is a trigger pulled to hypothetically bring in a Lucic to shadow McDavid? Hypothetical people, hypothetical.... |

Maybe they can get some truculent line mates like Hudler and Monohan for him |

Idk, maybe Gordon, Hendricks, aulie, nikitin, some guy I heard of named gazdic? Ebs is a little soft, but honestly the whole top 6 plays heavier than they are given credit for. |

He gave himself an air pass to drive the net from the other side of the ice, with both nurse, and angelo on the ice. The kid is going to make people look silly in the NHL, Nurse, and Angelo, are both amazing skaters, an he made them look slow. |

Monahan's hair sticks out the front of his helmet when he's angry.
You wouldn't like him when he's angry......
Also I'm a huge fan of Bruce Campbell. |

His feet just dont stop moving, that is why he is so good, so when your teaching your boy to skate, always harp on him to keep moving his feet no matter what he is doing with his hands. |

Monohan is a stud, love to have him on my team. Landon Ferraro, Thomas McCollom and a 2nd? |

I hate to suggest the possibility, but if it comes down to it, say two years down the road, and Leon proves fully capable of playing C in the NHL behind McDavid, the first guy I shift to the wing is the Nuge. It's been said here before that plays a stylistically similar game to a young Marian Hossa and- while my viewings of young Hossa have been limited- I can kinda see the comparable especially since RNH has worked on his wrist shot.
Sure it's important to have experience up the middle but itt can also be a HUGE benefit to have a defensive presence on the wing particularly when transitioning a young C into the league (Leon in this case).
This wouldn't need to be permanent, but at least to start, I feel like it would do more good to adjust him to playing C earlier in his career so he takes those habits (responsibility and all) into every role he's asked to play. A top-6 like this screams elite quality:
Hall/Yak- McDavid- Eberle (Off zone push)
Pouliot- Draisaitl- RNH (tough opposition)
And yes, I'm expecting one of Hall or Yak to have been moved out for a quality defender by this point. |

I don't mean any offense, I'm sure you meant well by that post, but why in the flippin hell would he be paired with any of them?
That's what hurt Hall, Nuge, Ebs for years was the fact they had to wait for another line to come on the ice to do something about the crap they were dealing with. I'm talking about a bonafide top 6 beast to play along side him. Not some player 2 lines down the order....
Sometimes it works to move someone up with them or move them down a line to protect them, but a top 6 vet who can mingle in the thick of it goes a long way as opposed to a Gazdik. |

I just don't see protecting your stars as being nearly as important these days. Who's protecting Tyler Johnson's line in Tampa? How about Toews in Chicago? Datsyuk or Zetterberg in Detroit? Gaudreau and Monahan in Calgary? The list goes on. If any type of "protection" is needed it's coming from one of two places these days; from the player himself (McDavid is 6'1 190 already so it's not like he's gonna be weak) or from the backend (Hedman, Seabrook, Ericsson, etc).
With guys like Nurse and Klefbom climbing the ranks, needless to say, I'm not worried. |

Take poorcell out of this lineup and we are set for forwards, and I'd start the year with Roy.
Where's our number one D and our goalie? |
|
|
|
Hall with a hatty and Eberle with 2 assists (both +3) against Germany.
Lander with 1G, 1A, and +4 while Klefbom got 1G and +3 along with around 17 minutes of ice time against Austria. |

No thanks. I hate to drop him after his good play with Yak, but I just can't devote a roster spot to a 5'9 playmaker with next to zero defensive conscience. He won't play C, so he'd have to play the wing and if he wants to play with Yak (where he'd be effective) he'd need to play LW. He's not beating either of Hall or Pouliot out of a spot so he's be on the third line with Lander and Yak.
That just doesn't sound like a good choice. Maybe I'm wrong, but I hesitate to sign him. Much rather have Purcell. He's bigger, better at protecting the puck, more defensively responsible, can PK (used there by both coaches), and is already signed. |
