Bring in Steve Spott for the Phantoms if needed

I feel we as Flyers' fans are not used to the patience Hextall is showing with personnel and decisions. However, I feel come Septemeber, we will be happy with the draft, possible trades, and FA moves. They all might not be complete, but closer to Hextall's end game.

I am not a Spott fan ever since he put Nathan MacKinnon on the fourth line at the 2013 WJC.

I wasn't last season. Why should we assume I will be this coming one? I expect the free agent and trade front to look much the same as last season. No rookies will "win" jobs because there will be NHL contracts on the books.

One more year of the same I think.

I'll probably be pretty happy with the draft so there's that.

Not really irate, more worried about the possibility of another in season change, where the pool of candidates is more shallow or less skilled, or worst could cost an asset.

I'm going with downtrodden.

I'd did hear a talking head yesterday make a decent case for keeping the coach.

I still don't buy it.

If you truly feel that Berube couldn't have possibly gotten more out of the roster, fine. I don't think they were a playoff team as built, but I also don't feel that the coaching got the best out of them or put them in the best postition to succeed.

On Wednesday, Hextall faced a barrage of shots in the form of leading questions. He played his own angles, challenged and refused to yield any ground. He left out a few rebounds that led to even more pointed follow-up questions but he turned those away, too. In the end, very little got past him and he revealed only the limited information he wanted to present in the first place.

My question is simple. How does any coach survive 12 consecutive losses to non-playoff teams?

Sure, the roster has holes, but are you telling me the Flyers don't have good enough personnel to win at least half of those games against the other bottom feeders of the NHL?

The concern now is, Berube is retained for another season, he subsequently gets let go after a poor start next season. And the Flyers appoint Murrany interim coach. If this scenario shakes out, the Flyers will have likely lost out on numerous quality candidates. Fire Berbube now, choose the best candidate for the job and let him develop the team. If Berube is retained he knows he's coaching for his job, which will lead to short sighted decisions.

The only thing worse than Berube coaching the Flyers is giving him the keys to the prospect pool.

The logic went like this: Why fire Berube? He's spent years in your organization being groomed to be a head coach. You've invested time and money the same way you do on a player. You give him two seasons as a head coach and then you fire him? What coach is going to win saddled with maybe the worst defense in the NHL? Look at all the teams who didn't make the playoffs and short of Boston & Columbus (who had numerous injuries this season) all of the teams had atrocious defensive deficiencies. Why would you throw away years of coaching development on the back of this season's Flyer's team?

I get it. I still don't want him at the helm.

What about Maclean, Bylsma, Tippett, Julien, DeBoer, Boucher.... All have much better resumes than Berube.
