Sure, but am I going to trust what 2 general managers coaches believe about his potential, or a couple of posters on a message board? With all due respect, I'll take the GMs/Coaches opinions anyday.

Without commenting on the actual moves anymore, this logic is bullpoop and has been thrown out and dismissed before. JR being GM and MJ being head coach does not equate to them being infallible. This is a very piss poor defense brought on when you have no valid rebuttle. The very prime example of management not being smart with what they do was the very last one that was thrown out last season, so I don't know why anyone needs to remind you let alone start pointing to other idiotic moves made around the league.

The thing about this trade is that although its terrible asset management, it doesn't doom our season, but will have major implications for us moving forward. Even if we win the cup this year, will this trade be worth it still? I don't think so...

A better trade would have been Scuderi for Lovejoy Comparable players and a good way to get rid of a bad contract. Now we still have a bad contract and it will be worse with no one to bail out Scuds. Depres made Scuds looks servicable THey could have gotten rid of a bad contact and freed up some cap space but they gave up a future better choice of assets

Marc Andre Fleury is going to earn his money now. I thought this was an average group of defensemen before, now I think it is weak and soft.

MR.Wilson, we have the same thought process regarding lines:

Martin-Letang
Ehrhoff-Pouliot
Cole-Lovejoy-Scuderi

This could work. I bet HCMJ loves Pouliot's game and he'll stay in the lineup.

Again: horrible horrible trade.

The Pens GM should be fired. How can that team not be in first place - in the NHL - by miles.

This was a terrible trade.

Maybe management thinks Cole has a higher ceiling? He is +16 and 26 and also playing better than 47. Lovejoy was top 4, certainly can play that here too but most likely bottom pairing. I really hope DP isn't sent down...

All things considered, we lose 2 rookies that have been playing like poop lately, for 2 defenseman who are solid. I'm not that happy about 47, but I guess if it pans out I can live with it. Who knows, maybe Despres goes to ANA and is a dumpster fire. Probably not though.

i still don't see how this can be seen as terrible.

"kinda bad" at worst.

and i'm not sure how Ryan arrives at the "3rd pairing is the ceiling for lovejoy" conclusion right before showing his HERO chart with every category at or above the 2nd pairing level.

i'm surprised there wasn't a low pick sent to PGH in addition to Lovejoy.

But that's as "angry" as i'm going to get here. like i said. "kinda bad" at worst.

I liked one perspective i saw on twitter. Imagine it as despres for cole and bortuzzo for lovejoy and it kinda makes it easier to swallow. not a great trade but I think some people are making it way bigger of a deal than it needs to be. overall, i don't think THIS YEARS team got worse, and we're a team with a win now mind set, thats the way i see it

Yeah but Lovejoy over Despres isn't gonna make a big enough impact on our cup chances. The short term upgrade is just too minuscule while the long term downgrade is humungous big!

They didn't sell low on Bennett, but they probably sold low on Despres. If he makes much of an improvement in his game at all (which seems likely), this is a bad trade. 8 years difference and not a huge difference in ability between the two.

scuderi is worse than lovejoy. His contract is also MUCH worse than lovejoy's.

so i agree. it would have been MUCH better.

but it just wouldn't have been realistic to expect that. at all.

I would have hated this trade if it was Dumoulin for Lovejoy. Ugh...Just absolutely horrific asset management w/ this trade.

After the solid moves in Perron/Winnik this Despres trade makes little sense.

Hmmm... Bortz for Lovejoy... Yes, I like that.

Despres for Cole... eh... Cole fits our system better, but Despres was still really needed for hitting.

But yes, 100% easier to swallow.

If you think that Scuderi and Lovejoy are comparable, then you haven't watched Ben Lovejoy since he moved west.

Injuries. One of the best divisions in hockey. Basically a whole new team. New coach. New system. I think we are doing just fine. Worry about your McEichel race while we worry about the Cup.

If that's the case, then trade away this year's 2nd, next year's 1st, and other prospects. You have to weigh the cost v benefits rather than follow some mindless platitude like "win now."
