Eh, I dont know about that. I can admit, I love gudas and hate that he is traded. But we get an experienced defenseman that is under for at least 2 more years of contract to help win the cup, and more draft picks to load up on for the future.

Connolly was a skilled player turning into a 4th line checker for us. He needed a team where he could thrive, and Tampa wasn't it.

Besides, with Witowski, Blujus, and Deangelo all in the system, there isn't going to be much room for an injury proned defensemen like Gudas.

Gudas was pretty much the only physical defenseman we had, and we traded him. I love Yzerman, but Jon Cooper will leave for Boston because of how soft he's made this team.

My initial reaction is "THE HELL?!?" But, willing to give Stevie the benefit of the doubt, I'll marinate on this for a minute. Some fans are going to be unhappy about Gudas. I still have a feeling, though small, Connolly wasn't used properly. But maybe that's why they let him go? As in they feel like someone else is more suited for the role he would fill.

Really? You honestly think Cooper had absolutely no say in this? I believe Cooper is very partial to speed. We definitely have that up front. But with the attack style he's been using he needs it from all the defensive lines as well. They need to pinch and get back when it doesn't work. I'm not happy Gudas is gone, but looking at it from that perspective is the only way I see it making sense. He was physical but a little flat footed. That being said, I'm not familiar with how fast Coburn is.

I think we won the Coburn trade however. He's a good 2nd pairing guy, but he's a complimentary guy. If you make him "the guy" then he will be exposed.

tampa had two first round picks and two 3rd round picks this year plus we just got two second rounders for connolly we could afford to over pay. we had a huge need on defense!

This is all wrong! What did Steve do???? These are panick moves! We got fleeced. A first rounder, and Gudas for Coburn? Wow! Very disappointed. I wouldve traded Brown before Connolly. Terrible moves today. Dont want to rain on the parade but im predicting another first round ouster for our Bolts. Damn.

i think we took two steps back with these moves. There was no need to feel so pressured into making a deal.

Is Coburn any better than Gudas? The more i think about this trade the worse it gets. And the connelly trade to cover seconds because you gave up one of your 1sts and one of your 3rds makes the Philly deal even worse.

I'm with you. Stevie hasnt made to many mistakes but these two moves are an absolute disater. I'm not here to troll, i'm actually rooting for Tbay this year and i dont see how these moves made them that much better now that they had to give up so much. I hope they win the cup and I eat my words otherwise this is a bad day for the Bolts organization.
