And if it doesn't work out, you put him on waivers and nobody picks him up, aren't you stuck with that contract?

1. 2020
2. If EDM of all teams waived someone it's usually not a good sign so you'd likely be stuck with his cap hit or have to trade him with a large % of his cap hit retained.

No doubt that he makes the Oilers better, but there's more downside than upside to it IMO. Personally I hope EDM or CGY does it.

Maybe he can hook you up with some coked-out redheads that you can drool all over.

From what I gather so far everyone is more or less disappointed.

Not seeing a lot of anger towards he or the organization. Rick is a good guy who just never seemed to be the same player post-trade or concussions. Confidence wasn't there, game wasn't there.

Still put in a lot of tireless efforts but just couldn't buy a goal even if they were on sale at Wal-mart.

I bet he goes unclaimed

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 1m1 minute ago
If Richards clears waivers, sent to AHL, $925K of $5.75M cap hit comes off LA's cap. So Richards would represent $4.825M of dead cap space.

A team would be doing the Kings a huge favour taking the cap hit right off their hands.
A team would probably try and trade for him to give a junk contract back

He'd never shop at Wal-Mart, unless prescription meds went on sale.

I'm a big Richards fan, but he takes part in some off-ice activities that are more conducive to a 20-year-old frat boy. I think they're taking their toll on him.

I feel like richards is a player Lou has lived for a long time and especially when deboer was still here. Wouldn't be shocked if Lou put in a claim ( I think it won't be long till clowe goes on ltir ).

Huge mistake not buying him out over the summer.

I can't imagine anybody picking up that contract, the term is just an absolute killer.

As a Kings fan, I was excited when he came here and what he brought to us. But, gradually he has been regressing worse and worse every season. No one seems to understand why that is. Then DL had that talk with him before this season, and MR stated he would come into camp extra ready and in shape to be better. DL said okay I trust you. Then he started okay, looked okay, but ended up the same. I mean think about it, if DSutter has him floating around the 4th line with Clifford & Nolan, then he really has fallen out of favor on his performance. I still think he is a great team mate with the players. That's not enough.

Fact is, he is making Kopitar, Quick, Carter, Doughty type money. But his output is no where near what it should be in comparison to other players in the NHL. DL would take many other players around the league with that salary that are doing way better than him. This whole thing is sad. I think us Kings fans nor DL/DS ever thought that this would happen. Still I cant figure the reason for MR do go that far down hill. But something has to be done to clear salary and upgrade this stagnant team. I hope DL makes some bomb moves to help us win another cup. GKG

Yea. That's the death sentence. MAYBE a team trying to reach the floor and in a rebuild stance takes a shot, but I doubt it.

No way the Jets pick him up, they need a winger.
