Wow interesting quote from Kreider. He definitely seems like a different player now than just a couple weeks ago.

Bob McKenzie says bottom line asking price for Vermette is likely a 2nd + good prospect but Phoenix will try to do better than that by waiting until the last hour on deadline day.

So based on that who could we trade?

Bob McKenzie listed the Rangers, along with the Blackhawks, Blues, Habs and Ducks as teams that “would love” to get Antoine Vermette. (Nichols on Hockey)

McKenzie says that Vermette is “good on faceoffs and can do a little bit of everything.” (Nichols on Hockey)

McKenzie thinks that Coyotes GM Don Maloney could hold Vermette until close to the deadline to try and get more than a second round pick and a good prospect for him. (Nichols on Hockey)

Vermette, 32, has 11 goals and 19 assists this season and is 55.2% on faceoffs.

He is a UFA at the end of the season and currently has a cap hit of $3.75 million.

Vermette was a teammate of Rick Nash and Derick Brassard in Columbus.

I gotta say the though of adding Vermette for a 2nd and a prsopect does sound great. But I'm sure we'd not love deal if one of Miller, Duclair, Buchnevich were involved. Gotta think that would be end of discussion from the Rangers standpoint.

if it took one of those 3, who would you be willing to let go of to get it done?

Idk, I guess Buchnevich. Might be unpopular opinion. Can't really trade Miller, nobody in Hartford good enough to fill his role. Duclair, is probably our best forward prospect not in the NHL. Idk it's a tough question.

Would be no deal for me if it involved any of those 3. I'm not so sure how he helps us, he seems really similar to a Brassard, meaning doesn't help at all on the defensive side.

The Rangers are not trading Miller, nor Duclair, nor Buchnevich for essentially a 32 y/o #3 center that's good on faceoffs. Maloney can wish in one hand and poop in the other and see which fills up first if that is his asking price.

That's the kind of trade teams regret 2 or 3 years down the road. I for one like being on the McDonagh side more so than the letting go of Zubov, Amonte, Savard or Weight side of the ledger.

what about both of our 2nd rounders instead of a 2nd and a prospect? since we seem to all agree that including Miller, Buchnevich or Duclair would be ridiculous?

Can't do that, we need to still keep drafting players, that would be getting into trouble, we're 6th in Goals per game and I'm personally not spending a 2nd on a rental to help in the dots, Vermette would be nice because he does more than that but if he's the prize of the deadline we won't have enough to get him, I'd be all in on Sekera though, 2nd, Moore and/or McIlrath should get it done

Thats false, hes a very good player in the defensive zone. Hes a smaller eric fehr who can put up better numbers if in the right situation. On out third line between hayes and miller looks like it could be that right situation. We need depth down the center, and thats as deep as we can get without selling the farm. I say hagelin, bourque (ryan) and a third

That's not close to getting it done, someone will give them a 1st and a prospect without a doubt

the Coyotes drafted and traded Lindberg in the first place, not sure if they would be interested in getting him back

Lindberg has made some great strides since then and is close to NHL ready. He could end up essentially replacing Vermette only he'd be locked up for the future. Plus the picks.

Again, if not....then move on to some other options. I will admit that I think Vermette is more of a 2nd line center than a 3rd line center and would be an amazing addition but I'm not trying to pull a Washington with Forsberg type of deal.

who knows what reasons the Coyotes had for giving up on Lindberg so quickly, but maybe they got the sense he didn't want to be part of their organization.

Don't know, I would certainly do Vermette for Lindberg and a 2nd, I just have my doubts. Lindberg is a RFA after this season and could very well go back to Europe for all we know.

I might be remembering this wrong but didn't we have a little dip last year, around the olympic/all star break?. We were so hot before the break and then after we couldn't get any traction. I'm NOT saying we're gonna follow the same path, but I can't seem to get my memory straight.

kind of. The first game after Olympics we beat Chicago 2-1 but then lost to Philly, Boston and Toronto in OT, then got things going again

I wouldn't even do that much for a potential rental. This may be straight-up for a winger because there is no cap room to resign the guy and offering a prospect that may need to make the team next season and a pick seems to be a bit too much IMO for a player that, if traded for at the TDL, plays for a dozen regular season games and an unknown amount of playoff games.

I know depth is important, but why fix what isn't broken at the moment. The Rangers already have movable-position players that can jump from wing to center in the bottom-6 already.

Right, thanks.

With Toronto's annual bad hockey this time of the year, and a strong draft coming up. What do you guys think it'd take to get Santorelli from TOR? For a comparison to Vermette's 2nd + prospect.

I wouldn't trade Miller for Vermette. I dont' think that trade makes the team better this year or the future. If they do decide to trade Miller, I want something more. I think he has more value. I agree with Larry Brooks's article though. I would give that newly constructed 3rd line of Hagelin-Moore-Miller a legit chance after the all star break. They looked pretty good in the 3rd period last game.
