Your team will always have injuries. That healthy lineup looks nice on paper but will never happen. |

Agree 100% but I see the team waiving arc and not sitting adams when the team is healthy... they just won't do it.
Scuds is still the weak link on the blueline. He put despres and the pens in a couple of bad situations last night. They can't have that. Send him to la for a pick if pens don't deal martin.
I think another winger like Jagr or Tlusty is needed for geno. I'd run these lines
Perron sid horn
Bennett/trade geno trade/Bennett
Kuni Sutter comeau
Spaling goc downie

Despres was god awful last night and it had nothing to do with Scuderi. Too much time spent being cute, trying to make the complicated play when the simple play would have sufficed.
It's easy to say that the "dead weight" is the problem, but it wasn't the problem last night.
The problem last night was stupidity and laziness at inopportune times. Despres inexplicably failing to take the body. Harrington employing the Deion Sanders trail technique. Kunitz's controller being disconnected on a 4 on 2.
Class of the Metro means nothing to me. It's one game.

If you think Despres was god awful on Tavares you really don't understand what you're watching. And the 4th line was terrible. Having only 3 lines capable of playing hockey in a fast paced game like that really wears on a team. The Isles 4th line gives them energy, ours gets stuck in their own zone for minutes. Sill had over 10 minutes, that's 10 minutes with 0 chance of scoring and a good chance of the other team scoring. Cup caliber teams don't have that problem. |

Kunitz has past chemistry with him. Perron and Hornqvist have present success with him. |

Yea you guys need depth.
Now, I know it's an unpopular option, but what about trading Crosby for 3 or 4 quality roster players? Make Malkin the top dog and deal Crosby to a team like the Blue Jackets. Crosby and a 3rd for Jenner, Foligno, Anisimov, and Wisniewski.
Then your lineup looks like:
Perron - Malkin - Hornqvist
Kunitz - Anisimov - Foligno
Sutter - Jenner - Bennett
Spaling - Goc - Downie
Letang - Martin
Wisniewski - Erhoff
Despres - Harrington/Maatta
Much better lineup. |

What was he then, effective?!?
He tried to dance with Tavares instead of hitting him in the chest. In the third period Martin was one on one with Tavares and did the right thing and Tavares was totally emasculated on the play.
Despres, like always, has million dollar talent and a ten cent brain. He spent all night trying to be cute with two forecheckers draped all over him.
And like I said, the 4th line wasn't the problem. Downie's idiocy, an awfully lazy backcheck by the top line on a four on two, Despres getting abused by Tavares - those are the reasons the Penguins lost.

Just a random thought..have you guys noticed Letang looks like he took. Like he is so calm he almost looks lethargic at times. No doubting he's been a beast this year, just seems to be like a switch went off from last year he was constantly forcing plays, taking shots at every guy that hit him, yelling at the refs, etc. |

Instead of dogging Despres who is far from seasoned btw, we could acknowledge Tavares for the elite player that he is. He turned him inside out. It happens. |

Not jumping in this silly Despres argument.
But Martin did what he's done all season long. He has a couple games of brilliance (like last night) and other nights where he's just completely unmotivated/going through the motions. |

Could not watch the game but we were outshot 35-24 and gave up 4 goals in the third. have to say the better team won. they used transitional speed against our defense well in the third period from the highlights I saw. Our defense will have to play better and the team will have to play smarted to get by the Isles in the playoffs. Not having Comeau back doesn't help. |

Who cares about one regular season game in January... Pens and Illes are both making the playoffs... The goal is to get healthy and rolling by then... Perfectly happy that the ILLES are the best team in January .... Perhaps they re the better team... we ll see... The cup is awarded in June |

Kunitz has played well with Sid and Geno, he is actually pretty good at fitting anywhere in the lineup and putting him with Sutter should help Sutter as he's usually playing with scrubs. It helps give us a balanced top 9 and not just a 2 line team with Sid/Geno's line while Sutter sucks it up with some dead weight. |
