It not that curious, poor drafting outside the 1st round and not developing their own Defence/Prospects. You won't build a competitive team if your D Core and Bottom 6 is assembled only with Trades, UFAs, and undrafted signees.

before Pickard looking like a great goalie prospect in the making, its only those 2 from the 2009 draft, Dutch, ROR, and Barrie is a pretty good haul but the drafts after that...Woof

Colorado took the league by storm last season with a potent offense, good defense and above average goaltending. They finished atop the Western Conference last season with 52 wins and 112 points. Expectations were high for the team as most expected them to battle it out with the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues for the division this year as they prepared to avenge their seven-game, first-round playoff loss.

disagree, Johnson is a Dman that they desperately needed, they had another Shattenkirk in Barrie. both are 5'11 (generous to be listed as that) RHS puck moving Dmen.

Stewart was damaged goods they sold high on him and it looks like they made the right decision to ship him out when they did. Just messed up that 11th overall pick they got from St Louis drafting Seimens. It makes sense that they drafted him since him and Elliott paired together as the WHLs best Pairing, so made sense to get the other half of that combo

Shattenkirk is a better player than Johnson is though and Stewart, even though he was pretty bad, was an asset included in a deal for Miller and Ott and will likely be dealt for a 2nd or maybe even a 1st at the deadline this year.

Hell, Shattenkirk has surpassed Pietrangelo as the best defenseman on the Blues. And that's saying a lot.

good old Siemens, hes still 21 so he might pan out still (2-3 years away still)
But yup the drafting history of this club has been terrible. Yet people were shocked when Pracey was fired as the head of amateur scouting.

You can't have that many swings and misses

I don't think shattenkirk would be as good as a Dman being the Top guy with a group of Hejda and Barrie on the Avs still. They would get murdered.

I love Shattys game, hes a good dman, but being able to wheel and deal when you play with guys like Petro and Jay-Bo is more forgiving compared to what he would have with the Avs covering him
