The 18-year-old is 9-0-2 with a 2.08 GAA and .929 save percentage for the Greyhounds in the past 11 games. That, and the fact Halverson is so adept at handling the puck, is what caught the eye of the managerial team. He ranks third in the OHL in wins (16) and ranks eighth in saves (620).

So is Halverson as good as those numbers indicate or is are those numbers inflated due to him playing on a great team? He ranks eighth in saves so he sees a lot of shots.

Nice blog Jan.

Miller does provide some nice versatility throughout the lineup and he's playing well but we've seen him flare out before after "solidifying" a roster spot. Hopefully that's not the case here.

I think Miller on the wing will be best. I think Hayes is a better center and Miller on the 4th line is a waste. Miller has played better on the wing than at center and there's no need to push him to play center when we have Brass/Step/Hayes as our top 3 centers.
I think as the season goes on Hayes will start showing up more often on the score sheet.

I am very happy with those 3 as our centers

in one of those message board fights yesterday somebody pretty much was like "WE NEED TO TRADE FOR A CENTER!" and it was the typical Stepan isn't a #1 center crap, even though he has made at least 10 insane passes this year that led directly to goals only about 5 other players in the league could make since he has returned from injury

If we didn't get Hayes, I think the case could be made that the Rangers would be looking for a center, but just out of necessity, not because Stepan isnt qualified to be the top center. I think people also have to realize Hayes only played in college, the way he is playing is pretty phenomenal. I would not be surprised if Hayes keeps progressing and learns to be better in the dot he could be as good or better than Stepan in a couple years, and be that big prototypical center that everyone wants.

I agree, but he's been invisible in those past games where he "flared out." it seems to me like he's much more of a physical presence on the ice even when he's not scoring. bottom line, he's noticeable, more so than in the past.

The fact that we have him locked up next year is great. I'm not the best with contract wizardry, so when his contract is up, what is his status?

He signed an entry level deal with the Rangers so he should be looking at a bridge deal I would guess as an RFA.

So hypothetically speaking, once we lock Stepan up, we're sittin' pretty at the center ice position for about the next 3-4 years? (That is if Hayes stays on pace to be a monster of a player)

Well yea as long as one of the "kids" can replace Moore on the 4th line we should be all good

Now it's the AHL. Rangers say Joey Crabb is being isolated from Hartford (AHL) teammates, being tested for mumps.

That "replacement" likely wouldn't come until 2016-17, as Moore is signed for $1.5 mil next season.

Could be worse. Penguins now have MAF, Crosby and Bnnett all with the mumps.

Well, MAF's five hole just got a hell of a lot smaller.
