First
I agreewith JJ that maybe the Hawks should keep Raanta and send Darling back to Rockford. First Raanta has shown he can play well after long layoffs and second Darling could use more games to get better at rebound control. |

Hypothetically, and I hope this won't be the case at all, but what happens if Crawford struggles a little bit to get back up to speed after coming back? Q has been known to ride the hot hand, even though we know Crow will be the guy come playoff time. |

Agreed. |

I think ,sometimes . They should rotate the 2 goalies back and forth to Rockford , unless wavers is a factor . Keep them both fresh , you know Coach Q is going to ride Crow . Nice 3rd period from a team playing back end of a back to back with travel .Toews looks great as always , they make them tough in Winnipeg ... |

.944 sv pct and 1.85 GAA for Raanta in the NHL this year over 6 games
Imagine the feeling knowing you played that well and that you might get sent down in favor of Darling, an ogre of a goalie (who is playing well, but not clearly better) who has been passed around more than a bread plate at dinner time in his career |
|
|
|
Among all goalies (qualified and non qualified) in the NHL, all three hawks goalies are in the top 9 for sv pct |

Can't help but think that Raanta is the love child of Mike Veisor. Same size and circumstance.....a very competant young goalie who gets to play now and then behind the best defense in hockey. Darling leaves a lot of pucks bouncing around. |

Competition for the #2 spot is a great thing. Best man will win.
It has been a while since the Hawks have had the luxury of quality goalies in numbers. |

who knows might come down to $$$ and cap...hwks are right up against it now and carrying only 12 forwards, 7 dmen and the 3 goalies. Darling stays and they save $200,000 more. Suspect Nords comes back when the goalie is sent.

Also, you must factor in TVR's salary once he comes back from LTIR. That's another $925k that hops right back on the salary cap. |

Or the team could roll with 12 forwards/8 defensemen/2 goalies for a while for some extra cap savings. |

That's not happening until sometime in February or March, right? |

Raanta goes = about $950,000 in cap space
Darling goes = about $750,000 in cap space
May not be that big of deal now...
my guess Rannta stays and Darling goes to play more.. |

Yeah, that guesstimate works. I figure he comes back, Hawks send him down to Rockford to get back in the grove and bring him back up with about 5 games to go before the playoffs.
But then again, what do I know... |

Broken patella is quite a severe injury, my guess is we won't see TVR ready for action until playoff time or a week before the season ends. The salary cap means nothing by that point.
Adding Erixon is another backend depth move by Bowman to keep his total number of defenceman that can play if absolutely needed up at 9 or 10. We are only 35% thru the regular season. |

TVR is LTIR, take his salary out of that 2.2 and thats likely accurate |

Solid win on some tired legs last night...
Saad really stepped it up last night. Thought the Erixon kid played a solid game and seemed to fit right in.
Minni up next tomorrow night.
Thought Raanta looked good again last night. I've been a fan of Darling's play as well. We'll see who gets sent down by the weekend... |

Good points and personally if I was Raanta I would ask some serious questions about my future with this team. If I am going to be jockied around like this I would suggest look at trading me to say the Oilers or a team in need. If not he will have to hang in there and say goodbye when he becomes a free agent one day.
I love it when Raanta is in goal and I would trade Crawford and hand it over. |
