Finally got rid of some dead weight, now only Carle is left. If we could trade him for a reliable backup our team would be perfect |

Yzerman traded a late 2nd + Eric Brewer and turned it into early 3rd + Jason Garrison.
Nice. |

How many draft picks do we have this year, isnt it a bunch? Its insane how yzerman was able to build such an insane team and have an abundance of draft picks in a very deep year |

For all the talk of Brewer being a pylon (which he was), he was a good guy and a good player for us. As Mike said, he was a key part of the 2011 run to the conference finals. Now if we could jettison that Ohlund contract, we would be free of albatrosses on D.
I wish Brewer success in Anaheim. He is a veteran presence and still has value to the right team, but his time in Tampa was clearly over.

Brewer was in the final year of a contract that paid him $3.8/yr.

Even when Yzerman messes up he gets out of it no problem. Makes it look to easy. |

I have met Brewer in person and he is a great guy so I wish him the best of luck for a team who needs defensemen so he will get to play.
This is a great move for us, it hurts our D depth but not too much. I think they are OK with Witkowski being called up if necessary.
Like I said in other post I think the Lightning will seriously think about letting Jonathan Drouin play in the WJC held in Toronto now that Paquette and Vlad are staying for sure. Personally I don't think that will be a bad thing if it does happen.
The biggest thing is now it allows them to target a player near the trade deadline to fulfill a need heading into the playoff push if they so desire. I could see them looking at another D, maybe backup G, or a RW.
Plus another draft pick, that 3rd was Edmonton's so its going to be an early one and basically replaces the second rounder we lost in the Callahan trade. |

Mike, hows Vasilevski and Gudlevskis doing down in the AHL. Do you think we will bring up one of them to replace Nabby? |

Not Mike but I doubt it both are not ready. Vasy is struggling with traffic and seeing the puck he won't be up anytime soon as that is the NHL. Guds is better but still needs more time. It's Nabokov for the foreseeable future. |

Good for Yzerman for clearing out 74% of that salary. Good luck to Brewer.
And now for Matt Carle.... |

Yzerman said they could look into adding another defenseman down the line, or "maybe something bigger."
I like Yzerman, I like our situation now heading into the trade deadline with the extra cap space and depth of players. |

Bishop starting tmrw? - rangerdanger94
Most likely since he last played Wednesday, then probably Monday against the Rangers. Then Naby Tuesday as it seems he only plays the back to back and this time its against Buffalo on Tuesday so it plays out well. |

I would like to have Sekera but they don't need to trade Carle to get him, a draft pick would do since he is a UFA at the end of the year.
I understand everyone hates Carle but to be honest with Barberio, Sustr and to a lesser degree Gudas still learning you need four veteran defenseman. I also don't see anyone taking Carle's contract.
With that said if the Bolts could somehow dump Carle's contract, get Sekara and resign him long term then Mr. Yzerman is a (frank)ing genius. I would just settle for getting Sekera for this year if possible. |

Well i said it earlier this season and even last week i said we cant go all the way with Carle and Brewer. (Ironically i felt Brewer had been playing his best physical hockey.) One down one to go. Lets see if Stevie can pull another one. Outstanding job getting a 3rd round pick for Brew. Best wishes to him. |

I'd rather see Bishop rest tonight and let Nabby get some playing time. Start Nabby tonight and Tuesday. We only have 12 back to backs all year and Nabby needs to get at least 20 or Bish will be overworked. Besides Nabby deserves a chance to show what he can do with rested players, always playing in back to backs really doesn't let anyone see what he can do. |
