Randall Ritchey: Brian Elliott Injured In Shootout Loss To Senators The Blues held a 2-0 lead in the third period, but they sat back and the Senators surged to tie it before the end of regulation. It took a shootout to decide the game and it was Bobby Ryan who scored the winner for the Sens.

Brian Elliott left the game halfway through the second period after Erik Condra and Chris Butler fell on top of the Blues starting goaltender.

Like RR said, this easily could be a significant right knee injury. It's probably sad that one of the best cases would be an mcl sprain which would be 4-6 weeks.

Allen's game was very inconsistent imho though he was put in a poor spot by the team's poor play in the third. He got lucky with two posts, made a couple of really good saves, got hung out to dry on the first goal and made a poor play not squeezing off the original shot on the game tying goal.

Bobby Ryan impressed me a lot...forget the O for a second..he made a tremendous play covering as the left D and made a great diving back check play. Great hustle and good game for him.

Hope all of you stay safe.

Very entertaining game, bad reffing created a lot of bad blood tonight between the players. Really like the STL line, they are dangerous.

I have Allan in my fantasy pool, so this game was a plus from all sides. Hope Elliot makes it back soon though, liked him a lot when he was here.

I don't know, if it was that bad of a sprain I don't think he would have been able to do any of those drills. And if he does end up missing significant time, Allen can fill in just fine.

Any word on Bouwmeester? They missed him out there especially in the third period.

I hate to say it but I'm not sure Butler is good enough to play on this team. We better hope the D stays healthy.

Two great periods followed by a lackluster third. Same issue DA spoke about after the last two seasons' playoff collapses - the inability or lack of desire to finish off an opponent. To step on their neck and choke the life out of them.

I can only guess at this point that the issue with the health of Oshie's father is having an adverse affect on him, because he's currently a lost cause out there. Virtually an empty uniform.

That or he's too close of a friend with Berglund and has picked up Bergy's bad juju. He's changing his gloves, his sticks, his skates and nothing is working.

Barrett Jackman would have made a better shoot-out effort than what Oshie did last night. That was pitiful to watch.

Disappointed with the outcome, but overall that was a really entertaining game. I've liked the way Backes has been playing lately; it's good to see both him and Steen starting to find their game.

Gotta give credit to the Sens for sticking with it and not giving up despite having 2 goals called off. The Blues meltdown in the 3rd didn't help; hopefully we get a full 60 minute effort in the next game.

Also, it sucks that the league keeps breaking up fights. Not a fan of taking it out of the game. I was glad they let Reaves go at least.

First of all, I would like to appologize to you Randal for being such a Richard. I hate seeing senseless violence being done. Seeing what transpired makes me feel both afraid and depeply hurt. It hurts me tho see that so many of our fellow citizens not only are but feel marginalized. It is emasculating to know that the only difference I can make is in the way I treat all people as people and not a white or a black person.

When violence like this occurs it stirs up within me a lot of memories I would like to forget but haunt me continuously. I suffer from combat-related PTSD. The way I react makes me feel shame and I respond with anger.

I am sorry. Having your transmition go out certainly sucks. I feel that pain. I have to get new tires on my truck and although no where near as bad or expensive as a transmission living down a dirt road means it is not cheap.

Now to the game. The theme should be the failure of the Blues to step on the neck and put the game out of reach. The Blues once again fail to put a puck in the empty net and many other chances throughout the game. There was a play I think on the last power play where Shatty received a good pass in the slot. Instead of just firing the puck right away he decided to handle the puck and made a decent shot that Lehner blocked with his shoulder. Had he fired right away where his momentum was low in the left corner was wide open. Too many chances were passed up with extra passes on giving the goaltender time to square up.

I hope Elliott is not injured but there is hardly reason to panic just yet. Unless we once again have a repeat of going to a fourth or fifth goalie as has happened in two different recent seasons with this club we will be fine. Binnington is an escellent young goaltender. Inexperience sucks to be sure but one position where it will not necessarily undermine a team is in goaltending.

Recently twice Hitchcock has had the fourht line out to take defensive draws and the puck has ended up in the back of the net. I do not understand this obsession to role four lines out there when you have three lines full of players minus Lidstrom capable of playing twenty minutes a night. Lidstrom once against struggled against a physical team.

The Blues are doing good.

Apparently Tarasenko accidentally hit Backes on his stitched lip and he dropped the gloves... what a captain... WTF

Anyone besides me kinda wished Tarasenko had dropped the gloves and beating the ever-loving crap out of Backes?

Not a big deal. And likely just an overreaction to what actually happened by the guys watching.

I would only want to see Martin in a Blues uniform some fifteen odd years ago when he was offered for Brett Hull. Otherwise you might as well sign Jammer. Ilya is younger and better. But Binnington is ready to back up.

If it is a deal, well Backes could fetch quite a haul from someone like the Oilers who would most certainly overpay for him. Hell he might be declining just a tad but his value is quite high atm. If it is a thing and you are Armstrong you are thinking this sucks but it is a good excuse to shed some salary and get younger.

I say Backes is traded if the team doesn't go anywhere in the playoffs this year, so get something for him before then.

David Backes

NTC
Captain
Big Center/Wing
30 goal scorer
Very good defensively

Why are people talking about trading him again?

lol

I said if it were a deal. IF.... because going forward who would you rather have Tarasenko or Backes? Eventually the Blues will either need to move players or let them walk. Salary cap era is tricky. The cap looks to not go up by much considering the Gas prices which when higher have in the oast favored the Canadian dollar.

So it is merely an if, not a desire but something the Blues will need to face in the future. Maybe not this season but shortly after it.
