you’re about putting players in the best situation to have success
That's a funny quote from Babcock. Maybe he should take his own advice...this right after he puts Weiss on the wing (a position he says he never played before coming to Detroit) with hands of stone Helm and Jurco that is struggling to put up points this season. That's without going into plenty of the things he has done with players that puts them in situations that is their weaknesses instead of their strengths. |

So you want him to throw Weiss to the fire with second line minutes and at the center position which requires more skating in the wings system so he can rip up his groin?
Also please explain your coaching experience. I'm sure you would do much better than Babs |

No I want Babcock to put him out of position with guys that are having trouble putting up points just to make sure his groin which was fine for him playing center in GR won't have another setback since it's not like he has been cleared to play or anything.
If his groin isn't fine it won't matter what position or how many minutes he plays it won't hold up so might as well try and put him in a situation to produce and gain some confidence. He's likely going to end up with less ice time than the Glendening/Miller/Andersson line. |

There really isn't anywhere else to put him at this point. Not gonna break up the other 3 lines since they're all playing pretty well. Helm is in better game shape and should stay at center, but i wouldn't be surprised if they switch a few at some point either.
Weiss is still the 13th forward at this point and will have to earn his spot wherever he's put and whoever he's playing with |

No I'm just tired of superfans like you that disagree with every decision. There is a difference between playing center at AHL speed and NHL speed. |

Actually Babcock did make some changes to the lines if Khan is correct since he switched and put Abby with Zetterberg/Nyquist and he put Franzen with Sheahan/Tatar. So at this point why not put Weiss at center with Franzen and Tatar or at least put him at center with Helm and Jurco...not like Helm is blowing it up offensively. |

And I'm tired of super sheep like you that blindly thinks everything they do is right and nobody should ever question their actions or decisions.
Skating in the AHL is the same as in the NHL unless they have some special ice in the AHL nobody knows about. The speed of the game is going to be the same for him on the wing than it would be at center so why not put him at the position he knows best and is more comfortable at?...why am I even asking you this when you would never dare to think Babcock can do anything wrong.
How dare any fan question an NHL coach or GM...not like these guy ever make mistakes or get fired. |

Basically when you asked about my coaching experience and saying that you are tired of anyone questioning Babcock's decisions just because I think it's a mistake to put Weiss in that spot just like I think it's a mistake to have Smith killing penalties while not getting any powerplay time, putting Legwand on the wing on the 4th line, scratching Kindl when he was starting to put up some points for Lashoff that can't put up points if his life depended on it ect...
If you don't want to interact with people that question the coach or GM then maybe internet sports sites are not for you...or you could start one with LT/southfield sam (guy from what use to be RWC and now rewingcenter). |

As I see it, in Helm and Jurco they gave Weiss two of the more physical players to do some heavy lifting. If he is on a line with Franzen and Nyquist, for instance, I think he would be expected to work the corners a lot harder (I actually think this is the same reason for Zetterberg's current slump). Anyway, in Helm and Jurco, Weiss gets two guys that are fast and physical. That will take pressure off him to be either of those things and maybe they even clear enough space for him to throw a couple shots on net and feel good about himself. |

I would like to see Smith on the PP too but I understand that running a 4 forward 1 dman pp group I would be worried about Smith giving up a lot of scoring chances. |

its all on Weiss. if hes finally healthy he should be VERY motivated to get out there and finally play some damn hockey. either that or hes gets injured again and the wings have no choice but to buy him out cant leave 5mill in dead money on the cap. |

Last year I would have agreed with you but this season Smith is tied with Dekeyser for least amount of turnovers among the Wings top 6 defense regulars. He's been much better in that aspect. Nyquist and Kronwall cost the Wings a short handed goal against the Leafs and I doubt with 4 forwards that it will be the last short handed goal against the Wings. His offense ability could very well outweigh the possible negatives. It should at least be tried for a good stretch of games to see if he can do a better job at creating offense than DeKeyser. Smith only has 1 point less than DeKeyser without all that PP time that DeKeyser is getting. |

I don't mind Kindl but DeKeyser just doesn't have much offensive game. Smith should at least get a shot though. |

100% agreed. I wonder if Babcock still has him in the doghouse for his play from the lockout season. Ever since then Smith never gets the premier opportunities to play the twoway game he should be playing. |

Odd that Kindl goes from a healthy scratch in Babcock's doghouse to replacing DeKeyser on the PP in his first game back. Smith seems to be on par with Ericsson and Lashoff in terms of chances to get PP time...hell I bet Ouellet would get a shot before he does. |
